The Digital Marketing Strategist is responsible for supporting the College’s social media and other digital communications strategies. By creating effective and innovative content — including social posts, copywriting, branded graphics, quick video, display advertising, pay-per-click, retargeting and remarketing, search engine marketing, paid social advertising, boosted social content and native advertising — the Digital Marketing Strategist develops and manages effective online communities and marketing strategies.

The Strategist must have a keen sense of storytelling, superior judgment and communications skills, must exhibit a collaborative spirit and desire to stay current with changing social tools and digital marketing trends . Reporting to the director of marketing and engagement, this role will work with faculty, staff, students, and administrators across the college to engage prospective students, parents, alumni, donors, and the general public. The coordinator will collaborate closely with the Digital Marketing Manager and others in the Office of Communications and Marketing to identify digital and social media opportunities that communicate the innovative vision and mission of the College.

Job Description:

  1. Plan, create, and post content to Skidmore’s “flagship” social media accounts. Measure and monitor results. Provide support and guidance on best practices to admins and other users of “affiliate” accounts across campus (i.e. Career Development Center, Tang Museum, Residential Life, etc.).
  2. Be an active participant in the Skidmore’s community, seeking out new ideas and generating content (conducting interviews, taking photos and videos, writing posts, building ads) to be shared on various social media channels.
  3. Maintain organic social content calendars that match the lifecycles of key audiences, with a particular focus on driving application/enrollment for College Admissions, and fundraising/engagement for Advancement and Alumni Relations.
  4. Develop and deploy paid social campaigns, giving input on budget and schedule, and working closely with other marketing colleagues (including graphic designers and developers) to retarget web visitors, boost existing posts/content, or create new content that is on-brand and in-line with College standards.
  5. Monitor and measure all social media efforts (organic and paid) to optimize content and messaging. Prepare reports and recommendations for future efforts.
  6. Provide consistent and timely social listening information to media relations and PR colleagues, analyzing trends, sentiment, and identifying emerging issues among audiences
  7. Actively and responsibly engage with Skidmore’s online communities, creating positive (digital) interactions with key constituents — particularly prospective families, alumni and donors — on social platforms
  8. Co-manage the College’s central advertising and digital marketing tools, including Google Ads Manager, Facebook Business Suite, AdEspresso, Sprout Social (or similar), etc.
  9. When needed, support external-facing virtual events and livestreaming through management of platforms such as Zoom Webinar, Vimeo/Livestream, YouTube Live and live social video
  10. Assist with the hiring, management and professional development of student workers


Education : Bachelors preferred, Associates required

Experience:

The Digital Marketing Strategist will be a digital and social media professional with at least 1 year of hands-on experience in their field. Successful applicants must have a demonstrated understanding of the interconnected world of organic and paid social media, digital technologies, community engagement and management, and issues prevention. They must also have experience deploying digital advertising and making data-driven decisions for effective campaigns. A background in (digital-based) crisis communications and virtual event programming is beneficial. Higher ed or non-profit experience is preferred but not required.

Pay Range: Commensurate with experience
