General Summary:

Provides user services at the circulation desk, coordinates and performs the routine tasks of circulation services, including course reserves, overdue notices, holds and recalls, reports, barcoding, etc. Serves as back-up for interlibrary loan services when the ILL staff member is away. Provides leadership and training for student workers to accomplish access services related tasks, displays, and outreach programming. Reports to the librarian who supervises access services or other designated person, and works with coworkers and student assistants to provide high quality, customer-oriented library services. Adheres to guidelines of federal, state, and local laws, and library, division and college policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Provides high quality circulation, directional, technical, and initial research assistance at the circulation desk.
  2. Coordinates and performs, in conjunction with the (daytime) Access Services Coordinator the routine tasks of circulation services, including overdue notices, holds and recalls, inventory, reports, shelf reading, project management, fine collection, etc.
  3. Runs and sends circulation system notices, maintains patron records and statistics, oversees maintenance of shelving in the circulation desk area, and handles delinquent patron accounts.
  4. Provides leadership and training for student assistants to accomplish access services-related tasks, displays, and outreach programming.
  5. Co-manag es and co-leads course reserves services, including creating records in the library software system, contacting faculty and students to resolve problems, and processing materials in a timely manner.
  6. Monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots library media and audiovisual equipment and reports problems to appropriate personnel.
  7. Coordinates McCain Library's social media presence through active collaboration, planning, and implementation with library staff in addition to library promotion through campus outreach opportunities, in conjunction with the Instruction &Outreach Librarian.
  8. Works with technical services and archives staff to add, process, and delete materials to the physical and virtual collections of the library.
  9. Provides backup coverage for interlibrary loan processing as needed and monitors library chat and email daily.
  10. 10. Works with the research support team to promote informational workshops and create and manage research guides.
  11. Assists in the revision of policies and procedures concerning circulation and reserves, and participates in library or access services strategic planning, projects, and staff meetings.
  12. Closes the library Sunday through Thursday. Normally works Sunday (2:30pm-10:30pm) and Monday - Thursday (3:00pm-10:30pm) during the academic semesters. During semester breaks, typically works daytime hours, 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday.


REQUIREMENTS

Education: Two years of college or equivalent level of education.

Experience: Minimum of 1-year work experience, library experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Familiarity with library operations, LC call number system, online catalogs and circulation.
  • Ability to use and troubleshoot computers, photocopiers, and audiovisual media equipment.
  • Strong user service orientation and attention to detail.
  • Basic email and computer skills which include Google apps, Word and Excel; good keyboarding skills and the ability to work with sophisticated library automation systems.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, and regular lifting of light and heavy objects. Work is performed in a library.
