Position Announcement

Working under the direction of the Director of Learning Design & Development within DSU Online, this position’s responsibilities are two-fold: 1) act as a learning designer on assigned instructional development projects, and 2) manage other instructional development projects, primarily for online offerings. This includes monitoring projects and timelines daily, supervising part-time technologists and external contractors, and participating in design, development, and assembly activities as needed. This position plays a secondary role in managing and supporting applications and technology used within the team, such as Canvas, LMS, CIDI Design Tools, Monday.com, etc. Information about DSU Online and its programs can be found at https://online.dixie.edu/ .

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate close, collaborative and professional working relationships with discipline experts and other members of the development team (Learning Designers, Media Designers, Graphic Designers, Web Developers, Instructional Technologists, etc.).
  • Apply systematic, instructional/learning design methods in real world, online instructional settings; schedule consultation appointments with faculty about learning design, templates, tools and technology solutions; participate in team design activities and give feedback on courses, modules, and activities, and coordinate quality management reviews to improve courses.
  • Participate in and/or facilitate faculty development workshops or other events in areas of instructional design and technology tools.
  • Analyze project scopes and estimate time/resources needed for completion.
  • In coordination with the Director, determine and schedule team roles/resources on projects.
  • Ensure projects follow established development procedures and stay within time/budget/quality parameters.
  • Monitor the completion of project tasks and milestones, responding to team members' concerns. Step in to complete task-level assignments in various roles, as needed.
  • Supervise part-time and contracted members of an instructional development team on assigned projects, including contributing to performance reviews and routine assessment. Give input on full-time hiring, capacity, and performance on projects.
  • In coordination with the Information Technology Services department, serve as a secondary contact for managing the learning applications and technologies used by DSU Online. Research and recommend tools to implement for learning innovation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or related field required; Bachelor's degree with significant experience in project management and learning design may also be considered.
  • At least three years' experience as an instructional/learning designer for online courses; design experience in online higher education preferred.
  • Minimum of two years' managing instructional development projects for digital learning environments (online/blended) required; teaching experience in higher education and experience in instructional/learning design for micro-learning and/or competency-based education preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills to concurrently manage multiple assigned tasks/projects and organize, coordinate, and direct team activities and results, as well as coach and develop direct reports.
  • Solid understanding of Learning Theory and Instructional Design Theory, with the ability to use fundamental web development technologies.
  • Fluency in using popular productivity software (Google Drive, Office365, MS Office Suite or equivalent) on either Windows or Mac computers, as well as navigating the web and using web-based tools to facilitate work, learning, collaboration, productivity, research, etc.
  • Proven ability to analyze data to identify trends and drive innovative process improvement, as well as be an agent of change in a rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels.
  • Ability to collaborate and be part of a dynamic team with excellence, integrity, and respect to include management of remote teams.


Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $62,000+ depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of October 2021.
