We look forward to welcoming new colleagues who will contribute to our thriving undergraduate and master’s programs and our interdisciplinary school-wide Ph.D. program.  A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field is expected by June 2022 for a September 2022 start date.  Applicants should have a demonstrated record or strong likelihood of top-tier peer-reviewed publication and evidence of or preparation for effective teaching. Applicants at the rank of Associate or Full Professor should provide evidence of leadership in research, instruction, and service; a record of external funding is a plus. Responsibilities of tenure-track and tenured faculty members include undergraduate and graduate teaching assignments, an active program of research in the candidate’s area of scholarly expertise, and service contributions in accordance with the university policy for tenure‐track and tenured appointments.

COMMUNICATION faculty member with a focus on Data Science and Organizations/Organizing

          The Department of Communication seeks a full-time faculty member in the area of Data Science with an emphasis on Organizations and/or Organizing. We seek a social scientist studying organizations and organizing who incorporates data science methods into their research. The ideal candidate will conduct theory-driven, empirical, communication-centered research that examines dynamic processes of organizing. We are looking for innovative and engaged communication scholars whose research foci recognize emerging issues, including but not limited to:  organizations, work, and equity; the science of work groups and teams; artificial intelligence and the future of work; media and technology; organizations and technology; globalization and civil society; organizing and collective action; organizational networks.  The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more core methods related to data science including, but not limited to, any of the following:  machine learning; natural language processing; network science.  More about the requirements for this position are on our full posting linked below.

COMMUNICATION faculty member with a focus on Inequities and/or Disparities

          The Department of Communication is hiring in the area of communication processes and inequities and/or disparities.  We seek applications from communication scholars whose theory-driven research examines and/or intervenes with processes and structures that illuminate inequities and/or disparities and offers pragmatic implications and applications. The ideal candidate’s scholarship on inequities and/or disparities would complement, and extend, one or more of our department foci of Communication and Technology; Health Communication; Interpersonal Communication; Organizational Communication; and Language and Social Interaction. Our department’s faculty research spans a range of empirical approaches, and we welcome applications from a diverse array of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods empirical communication-focused scholars. JOURNALISM AND MEDIA STUDIES

          The Department of Journalism and Media Studies invites applications from candidates whose scholarship adopts a critical perspective on the role of digital platforms and algorithms in global media and global society.  We are especially interested in candidates whose work addresses platforms and media systems in East Asian contexts and/or as they pertain to issues of race/ethnicity, disability, LGBTQIA+, class, or other historically underrepresented categories, regions, or groups.  We welcome applications from scholars using a range of methodological approaches (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, critical, interpretive, mixed-methods) who study topics including but not limited to the following areas:  algorithmic discrimination; data justice; environmental implications of digital technologies; platform economies; platform governance/regulatory frameworks; inequality and platforms; digital infrastructures (technical and/or material); media industries and platforms; platforms and publics (e.g., studies of mis/disinformation, civic engagement, platformized news and journalism); the role of platforms in political communication.
