The College of the Arts and Media invites applications for a Director of Recruitment, Marketing, and Media Engagement to join their team. The Director will lead and oversee all recruitment and marketing to support the College’s strategic goals and external relations. This position reports to the Vice-President for Marketing and Communications. The Director will develop a comprehensive strategy for targeted enrollment marketing, communications, and alumni relations to drive recruitment and increase enrollment for both traditional and underserved students.

The Director works collaboratively with the College’s leadership, staff, faculty, and development team to raise the College’s profile regionally, nationally and internationally. This position will create an engaging web presence for the College, and develop a communications strategy focused on faculty activities, research achievements, student successes, and alumni engagement. This position will develop and oversee the strategy, framing, rollout, and benchmarking of a CAM college-wide branding, marketing and recruitment campaign. The Director will manage CAM school liaisons to coordinate marketing and recruitment efforts across the college. When available, this person will manage student employees who cover social media channels.

The Director of Recruitment, Marketing, and Media Engagement collaborates with the CAM dean and school directors in developing and executing targeted marketing, recruitment, retention and community engagement efforts for each school and college unit. The person in this position will oversee all print and online media platforms for the College and work closely with the Office of Enrollment and the VP for Marketing and Strategic Communications. This person will play a critical role in recruiting and retaining students within the four schools. Specific expectations include, but are not limited to:
  • Design and lead the execution of an effective recruitment, enrollment and retention strategy for CAM that aligns with the Strategic Enrollment Plan of the university
  • Coordinate CAM recruitment/retention to align with the UM Office of Enrollment and Marketing and Strategic Communications
  • Identify prospective CAM resident, non-resident, and underserved students; active engagement with prospective students
  • Identify strategies for increasing retention of existing students, to include equitable, inclusive, and accessible approaches for all students and data-driven analysis
  • Manage and direct communications and editing of social media channels, including coordinating for CAM’s four schools:
    • Manage CAM school liaisons to coordinate the curating, creating, editing and posting of content. Manage student leads (both work-study and in courses) who contribute to social media channels across the college
    • Manage and edit the producing of web stories and resources (Alumni Q&A’s, brag sheets, newsletters, etc.)
  • Manage, edit, update, and design website
  • Manage the CAM brand, to include oversight of creating (designing and writing), managing and proofing print materials (brochures, posters, stickers, mailers, etc.)
  • Consult with faculty and students on the social media and web presences of capstone projects, performances, exhibitions, etc.
  • Responsible for promoting major events, speeches and performances via all social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and the College’s various websites; coordinating with dean, directors and staff to ensure events are promoted
  • Responsible for all recruitment efforts and collaborate with the dean/directors or their designates to:
    • Follow up with individual students who visit campus or request more information with personal emails, calls and text messages and strategizing on other “touch points” to help prospective students make their decision
    • Integration of all recruitment emails into Enrollment’s overall communication plans and executed out of Slate CRM
    • Create and maintain systems to track outreach and engagement efforts and streamline through Slate CRM
    • Manage the creation, launching and tracking of paid marketing campaigns
  • Collaborate with UM Marketing Communications designers, web developers, brand strategists, and digital marketers to create, execute and measure marketing campaigns
  • Other duties as assigned
Work can be done remotely, but will require the person in this position to be responsive to social media, as well as faculty and administrative needs throughout the workweek. Recruitment events on and off campus will need to be conducted in person. Social media work requires posting at hours that will ensure maximum viewership and recruitment events often occur during the evening and weekend, so working unusual hours that fall outside of the traditional business day may be required at times.

Position Details
  • Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.

  • Salary for this position is $55,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism, arts and culture marketing or a related field and at least five (5) years of experience in marketing, sales, recruitment or related field. However, any combination of experience and education that would provide the proficiencies necessary to successfully perform the duties will be accepted
  • An appreciation and cultural understanding of arts and media, both traditional and emerging genres
  • Highly developed journalism and/or marketing skills
  • Experience in the field of marketing and communications
  • Knowledge of the CAM and all schools and units within and their teaching strategies
  • Highly developed and functional computer skills (particularly relative to the use of current social media platforms and CRM software)
  • Skilled in web design and development
  • Excellent editing and writing skills
  • Experience in graphic design, photography and video editing and creation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the effective use of social media, including a thorough understanding of the current trends as well as speculated future trends on a multitude of platforms
  • Creative and innovative thinking skills necessary to create imaginative approaches to meeting the marketing needs of CAM
  • Communication skillset (both written and verbal) necessary to effectively communicate with a highly diverse set of professional contacts
  • Extreme responsiveness necessary to capitalize on the instantaneous nature of social media usage
  • Ability to both create and track high-level strategies successfully
  • Critical thinking skillset necessary to apply abstract concepts and creative ideas
  • Extensive working knowledge of current marketing trends, tools and strategies
  • Ability to effectively manage tasks independently (with very little direct supervision at times)
  • Ability to remain effective while handling a variety of distractions during execution of assigned duties
