The Grants and Prospect Research Officer will have a dual responsibility for donor prospect identification, research, and qualification at NDMU. Primary functions of this position include driving the prospect management process for a highly collaborative and energetic fundraising team; providing proactive identification and research of new prospects by actively mining NDMUs database of constituents; preparing prospect profiles and verifying wealth screening data for members of the development team and the Office of the President. This position has responsibility to assist the Senior Director in planning, organizing, and implementing programs designed ot secure grants form private and public sources. The Officer assists with database management for grant-related activities including submission, award, post-award, and closure of grants from public and private funders. Under the supervision of the Senior Director, will work on both institutional grant proposals, as well as on faculty grant proposals, as necessary to fulfill the strategic goals of the office. Teamwork and collaboration will be necessary for success. This position will play an integral role in the success of NDMUs current multi-year comprehensive fundraising campaign.

Essential functions will include:

  1. Identify new and undiscovered prospects through active and aggressive researching activities, utilizing both NDMUs constituent database and additional resources on philanthropists, influencers, businesses, and foundations in the Baltimore area and Catholic community. This includes review and monitoring of paper and electronic resources that may provide research related information on NDMU donors and potential prospects.
  2. Prepare thorough and accurate donor profiles on individuals, corporations and foundations which include biographical information, giving history, and activities with potential wealth capacity and philanthropic support potential, and areas of interest and affiliations.
  3. Assist with database management and documentation of donor records as needed.
  4. Support the overall cultivation and stewardship function of the department and University by attending and assisting with donor and community events as needed.
  5. Work as part of an integrated and collaborative fundraising team to move the overall fundraising goals of the University forward, including playing an integral role in the success of the comprehensive fundraising campaign.
  6. Assist the Senior Director in the design, implementation, and management of a comprehensive, proactive development plan focused on expanding corporate, foundation and government relationships, and assist in coordinating the activity needed to secure such support.
  7. Assist University faculty to identify funders in their areas of interest and assist in the development of proposals, under the supervision and review of the Senior Director.
  8. Assist the Senior Director to develop competitive, institutional proposals for corporate, foundation and government prospects to leverage support of University goals.
  9. Maintain paper and electronic files related to all stages of the grants cycle, including application materials, award letter, correspondence with grantor, narrative and financial reports, etc.
  10. Monitor deadlines for financial and narrative reports and other grantor requirements to ensure University compliance.
  11. Provide assistance with writing, editing, and proofreading for proposals, fundraising correspondence, and related materials within the Office of Institutional Advancement

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge: Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience: Two to three years related experience in fundraising and prospect research required. Practical knowledge of research and prospect management best practices, as well as an understanding of fundraising campaigns is expected. Experience with Raisers Edge preferred.
  • Skills/Aptitude: Excellent organizational and analytical skills a must. Ability to aggregate, analyze, and synthesize data into user-friendly and concise formats. High degree of proficiency in communication and interpersonal skills and superior customer service skills. Superior discretion and confidentiality regarding sensitive and personal data. Ability to work under strict deadlines with a strong, self-driven work ethic and proven ability to focus on a multitude of tasks at once. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Eagerness and enthusiasm for setting and achieving challenging goals. Curiosity for learning and the willingness to take on new projects and acquire new skills. Strong attention to detail. Ability to motivate others and the desire to work on a highly collaborative team.
  • Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Evening and weekend hours occasionally required.
