Lone Star College-Westway Park Technology Center

Lone Star College offers high-quality, affordable academic transfer and career training education to 99,000 students each semester. LSC-Westway Park Technology Center, a satellite center of LSC-CyFair, is located between Clay and Tanner roads off the Sam Houston Tollway. This center will focus on LSC-CyFair’s Visual Communication and Information Technology workforce training programs with certificates and degrees in areas such as Cisco and Microsoft Networking, Cyber Security, Computer Forensics, Graphic and Web Design, and 3D animation.

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Provides direction, teaching and support for CC Information Technology and Oil & Gas Upstream Visual simulation systems, program learning outcomes, industry certifications, and business contacts. Contributes to the educational environment of the Lone Star College and the community. Responsibilities include teaching and advising students. Primary functions are to plan, maintain, access, and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student success and student learning. Oversees the hiring of part-time instructors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Teaches courses Oil and Gas simulation systems at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs, making continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods, including hands-on technical training
  2. Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of thematerial
  3. Develops and uses a syllabus for each course or laboratory within college and departmental guidelines
  4. Evaluates students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and informs them a timely manner of their progress in the course. Identifies and assesses student who are need of additional instruction to successfully complete the courseobjectives
  5. Involved with recruiting and advising students in their area as well as assisting with student jobplacement
  6. Responsible for managing their classrooms and labs, including assuring lab facilities meet staterequirements
  7. Works directly with certification agencies to ensure alignment and high level of program and studentsuccess
  8. Works with Instructional Designers as a Subject Matter Expert the development and customization of trainingcourses
  9. Responsible for other reasonable related duties asassigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of Information Technology, particularly AWS, Cloud Computing, Networking, CISCO, Cybersecurity, Simulation Systems, Web-based technology, Linux, and Apple Coding
  • Understanding of the industry training needs (competencies, skills, technical level tasks, performance, HSE implementation) as they apply to Information Technology and Oil and Gas upstream
  • Understanding the developments and global trends in technologies and techniques for Information Technology systems and Oil and Gas upstream
  • Ability to work with the Oil and Gas program to provide instruction and support for the Drilling Simulation System
  • Mastery of course content
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; style that emphasizes collaboration, teamwork, transparency and facilitation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN a Microsoft Windows environment,calculator,phone,othergeneralofficeequipment, lab computers, and simulation systems
  • Interfaces with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions ofthe position as well as professionals in thefield
  • Work is performed in a climate controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • Instructors are required to meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction, typically anytime betweenam-8pm or online where needed
  • Work may include the use of LSC D2L Online training environment
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates degree or equivalent and at least 5 years of experience in an Information Technology role
  • Must have current directly related industry certifications where applicable
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain AWS Academy teaching certification within the first 90 days of employment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience teaching adults
  • CISCO CCNA certification
  • Microsoft cloud certification
  • Oil and Gas Information Technology Support
Salary

Commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
