Summary/Objective

Under the general supervision of the Director of Financial Reporting, this position assists team members with multiple accounting procedures and financial reporting of a large organization, which has a complex accounting system. Specifically, this position will maintain various accounting ledgers and records to ensure the University’s books are accurate, review accounting transactions at the departmental level and assist with all financial statement audits and tax reporting workpapers. Additionally, this position will work with units across campus (Provost, University Budget Office, Office of Student Accounts, Auxiliary Services, Schools/Colleges, etc.)) to ensure the timely and accurate processing and reporting of financial transactions.

Essential Functions
  1. Analyze accounting transactions for adherence with the established accounting procedures. Prepare journal vouchers, invoices, or other types of accounting schedules to maintain accurate records and audit trail. Work closely with the departmental budget and finance staffs to ensure the timely and accurate processing and reporting of financial transactions.
  2. Responsible for the maintenance and control of accounting subsidiary ledgers. Prepare accounting reconciliation’s between university and third party records and resolves discrepancies. Review and edit proposed adjustments to financial records. These functions are performed to make sure the University’s books are maintained accurately.
  3. Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports to provide necessary information for appropriate personnel. Prepare analyses of transactions for the annual audits to ensure accurate record keeping.
  4. Other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Must have work experience which demonstrates the necessary skills and abilities needed to perform the job.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Accounting 1: Skill performing basic accounting work that requires application of accounting concepts, principles, and standards to the financial activities of an organization and presenting accounting data.
  • Auditing 1: Skill applying general accounting and auditing knowledge, standards, and principles when examining and appraising of financial records and reports affecting, or reflecting the financial condition and operating results of an activity.
  • Financial Reporting: Skill interpreting, recording, and reporting financial transactions, and providing this financial information for planning actions and/or evaluating performance.
  • Internal Controls: Skill ensuring that funds are efficiently controlled, that fiduciary reports accurately reflect results of financial operations, and that the statutory requirements to control funds in accord with applicable legislation are properly executed.
  • Excel Level 1 Basic: Ability to enter and maintain data; do subtractions, multiplications and division; and use basic formulas such as SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT NUMBERS, MAX and MIN.
  • Standard Office Software: Skill using email, word processing and presentation development software applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint while preparing briefings, reports, and presentations.

  • Communication- Advanced: Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely orally and in writing, using language with precision; constructing logical arguments; editing and summarizing; and writing reports or correspondence free of spelling and grammatical errors. Ability to engage in active and empathetic listening and communicate with a service minded orientation.
  • Thoroughness in Reviewing Work: Ability work independently and to review one’s own work and information to ensure completeness and accuracy; carefully prepare for meetings and presentations; organize information or materials for others; follow up with others to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled; and set up procedures to ensure high quality of work.
  • Discretion, Tact & Diplomacy: Ability to exercise discretion, tact and diplomacy while interacting with students, faculty, university staff, management, and other stakeholders on confidential and/or sensitive matters.
