Position Summary

The Content Development Strategist is responsible for developing educational training materials for workforce clients that integrates with on-the-job training, reflects the culture of the client, and enables pre-determined learning outcomes. The work is driven by the timelines set forth by the client and the Content Development Strategist is expected to take vague to specific educational requirements and quickly develop/deliver training content in a pre-determined format.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Instructional Content Design & Strategy

Interpret and anticipate vague to specific requirements to create and/or modify educational and training content appropriately. Sources content information through client company specific subject matter experts, human resource personnel, and task supervisors via facilitated conversations, focus groups, compression planning sessions and/or independent research. Includes client company provided or referenced standards. Any content sourced from the client company that is specific to trade secrets, company held patents or customized processes would fall under the College’s non-disclosure agreement with client company.

Determine and outline education and training outcomes in conjunction with client company and departmental leadership.Develop education and training materials with an eye towards incumbent worker learning styles, incorporating the cultural tone of the client company, and any federal or licensure requirements that may apply to the established learning outcomes. Recommend and/or create learning aids to accompany the education and training content. Incorporate into content creation any identified industry recognized credentials or other pre-determined indicators of content competence that may be referenced by the client company or the departmental staff. Verify with client company and the Office of Talent Strategy any ADA requirements that should be reflected in the education and training content.

Content creation that may impact copyright compliance will be highlighted for consultation with departmental leadership provided instructional designer. All documents, records, work product materials, any and all other intellectual property (whether or not patentable or subject to registration under copyright or similar laws) prepared, developed or conceived, either solely or jointly shall be considered works made for hire owned by the college under the U.S. Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. §101, et seq.).

Incorporate cultural learning references as pre-determined by the client company and approved by leadership. (Example:phrasing examples that resonate globally to include multiple workforce populations that might be employed by the college client company). This work may involve working with a pre-determined multilingual vendor, cultural, hearing or speech specialist.

Utilize innovation in content creation enabling the use of learning aids, iPads, simulated scenarios, videos, or other identified methods that will enhance the learning delivery and or increase training participant retention. This work will be done in conjunction with an assigned instructional designer. Document content in accordance with the process as outlined by departmental leadership. Adhere to the timeline for content creation as outlined in the Scope of Work contract. Iterate content based on college client company guidance with approvals as interpreted and described through the Scope of Work. Adherence to deadlines for client company as outlined in the Scope of Work.

Created Content Assessment

Create or identify prior learning assessments that can be utilized with the education and training content if requested by leadership. Create or identify post-offering assessments that will verify pre-identified learning outcomes within the created education and training content. Work with identified assessment vendors or licensure bodies as identified by leadership.

Final approval of tools to be used in verifying education and training outcomes are at client company’s discretion as determined by leadership.

Consultation and Building Partnerships

Participate in pre-arranged consultation efforts with client company for the purposes of learning the company culture, work requirements, and safety guidelines.

Visit the client company site as requested to conduct such consultation and to view and or test equipment and/or processes to be embedded in the learning outcomes. Appropriate attire for client company interactions will be outlined by leadership and will be modified based on client company operations with such communications forwarded prior to a client visit. As for an example, allowable and required safety footwear in a manufacturing environment.

Attend or participate in pre-arranged client company conducted training identified workshops, conferences, technical interchanges or similar scenarios as approved by leadership on a case-by-case basis for the purposes of gaining knowledge specific to the creation of the requested education and training content. Interact with project associated vendors as identified for the purposes of content creation or integrating the content into already existing client company sponsored on-the-job-training or other knowledge transfer scenarios.

Collaborate with assigned content and instructional design personnel to map created content into determined learning delivery methods. Models exceptional customer service, teamwork, and professionalism in all interactions with college employees, client company employees, training participants, associated project vendors and community members.

Other Duties & Responsibilities


Attends all required leadership directed meetings and training, including those with the client company. Works outside of a normal work schedule, as needed to meet the Scope of Work outlined deliverables.

Usual Physical Requirements

The employee regularly stands and walks for extended periods of time, and sits for period of time to write content. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions

Typical office environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices. Must travel to various Columbus State campuses and client sites.

Knowledge of: broad knowledge of delivery modes for education and training content, design principles for creating education and training content. General project management principles. Customer service principles and practices.

Skill in:
design of high-quality training content; excellent verbal and written communication, excellent customer service; conflict resolution; general typing; planning, organizing and self-management; superior critical thinking, problem-solving, analysis, and synthesis skills; utilizing Microsoft Office and the Internet.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or certifications in creating training content. Minimum five (5) years of education or training experience State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
