PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor-Online Learning, the Director-Instructional Design is responsible for overseeing and supporting the development of new online courses. This position provides the performance related feedback and offers any coaching that is required for the designers to produce quality content that will thereby ensure maximizing the performance outcomes. The Director-Instructional Design is involved in seeking, sharing, and adopting ideas and best practices that are current with the latest instructional delivery trends. This position will facilitate the utilization and integration of emerging and relevant instruction and interactive learning technology tools in face-to-face, hybrid and online instruction to enhance student learning and engagement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Lead the course/program development efforts.
  • Supervise, seek, share, and adopt ideas and best practices that are current with the latest instructional delivery trends. Supervise internal Instructional Design team, including any consultants assigned to related projects. Provide final sign off on all course development and revision work
  • Observe both strengths and weaknesses of the team, addressing them through coaching and professional development
  • Lead a team of faculty and administrators to implement program development and quality standards for the District.
  • Collaborate with the faculty and online learning team to identify new opportunities for innovation in the web enhanced classroom
  • In collaboration with faculty, create methods to actively seek instructor feedback on the design and quality of online courses, summarize findings and propose plans for semester revisions
  • Identify gaps in the semester Master Course process and propose improvements
  • Represent City Colleges of Chicago at the Illinois Community Colleges Online Meetings (ILCCO)
  • Oversee the semester preparation activities for both faculty and students ensuring updated relevant content and provide support in online courses have access to a session of the orientation
  • Evaluate pedagogy goals with technology tools and recommend the appropriate technology to use by faculty in various situations
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s Degree (Ph.D preferred) in Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field, supplemented by 5 years training experience in a corporate or educational setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of Learning Management System functionality, instructional graphic design, development and production concepts related to online coursework and material.
  • Demonstrated skill in project management, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills required.
Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within six (6) months of hire.
