The College of Engineering: The College of Engineering, formed on July 1, 2012, is building a vibrant academic environment that fosters engineering education in a liberal arts environment and research that addresses critical societal needs. Position Summary
The College of Engineering wishes to appoint a Director of Operations and Administration for the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems. In this role they will be work under the direct supervision of Dr. Brian Bledsoe, Georgia Athletic Association Distinguished Professor and Director of the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems ( IRIS ), at the College of Engineering’s School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering ( ECAM ).

This position works closely with the IRIS’s director to manage the day-to-day operations for the Institute by providing centralized communication, fiscal support, and administrative organization. This position also works closely with school and college leadership. Administrative Specialists, Accountants, Budget Analysts, Human Resource Specialists, and Business Managers may report to this position. This role focuses on operational leadership, with a concentration on financial analysis and reporting, and program administration. Additional Requirements
Candidates with a master’s degree must document exceptional accomplishments in program, research, or project management and be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.

  • 10-15 years’ experience in managing science or engineering research or programs in higher education, governmental, or non-profit operating environments.
  • A background that includes managing cross-functional teams in a project/assignment setting, establishing schedules, and accomplishing milestones.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience.

Project Management / Contract Implementation
* Assist the PI and other faculty researchers in the writing of external contract deliverable reports, incorporating budgetary narratives into technical writings.
* Develop and maintain relationships with contract partners, including serving as point-of-contact liaison with sub-grantees and external partners working with the Center and UGA .
* Organize, track, and manage the deliverables of the Center’s external contracts, ensuring researchers and partners have the information needed to produce timely deliverables. Percentage Of Time 40 Duties/Responsibilities
Fiscal Management and External Grant Administration
* Serve as Institute’s financial director overseeing all funding.
* Analyze budgetary needs and projections for Institute.
* Lead budget development for Institute.
* Supervise full-time staff of 2 departmental business professionals.
* Monitor all budgets and expenditures.
* Oversee year end and grant cycle closures.
* Ensure Center operations are in compliance with UGA financial policies.
* Coordinate with UGA Sponsored Programs Administration on the implementation, pre-award and post-award management of external grants.
* Coordinate with Unit and UGA external affairs on communications and publications of the Institute. Percentage Of Time 40 Duties/Responsibilities
Human Resources
* Act as key contact for Institute employees, the home Unit, and UGA Human Resources regarding Center HR needs.
* Coordinate performance evaluations of the Institute.
* Advise Center leadership on human resources policies and procedures and ensure compliance with UGA HR policies and procedures.
* Analyze and develop organizational structure to meet operational needs of the Institute.
* Provide professional development and HR support for Institute employees.
* Serve as point of contact for Institute employees who require visa assistance or application. Percentage Of Time 10 Duties/Responsibilities
Information Technology
* Review and coordinate IT needs for the Institute, coordinating with appropriate Unit and UGA personnel to administer those needs. Percentage Of Time 10 Posting Specific Questions
