Senior Associate Director, Career Strategy - 67569BR

General Purpose:  Reporting to the Director of Graduate and Postdoctoral Career Services, the Sr. Associate Director will work with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from all disciplines to explore diverse career paths and develop and implement their educational and career plans. The Sr. Associate Director will create and deliver a range of services and resources aimed at helping graduate students and postdocs find fulfilling careers and achieve success in their professional lives. In this role, the Sr. Associate Director will:

  • Programming: Develop and execute a rich portfolio of programs, workshops and initiatives that support the diverse interests and needs of graduate students and postdocs, in collaboration with the Graduate School Dean’s Office, faculty, students, postdocs, alumni and other campus and external partners. Research and implement best practices in service delivery. Manage program budgets and report on outcomes.
  • Career Advising: Provide individual counseling to graduate students and postdocs interested in exploring non-academic careers on every stage of career development and the job search process. Through regular research and analysis, maintain solid understanding of job market and career development trends related to graduate students and postdocs.
  • Communications and Outreach: Implement a comprehensive communications strategy for graduate students and postdocs; establish and grow productive partnerships with faculty, students, alumni, and internal and external organizations; develop content and resources for website, social media platforms and other communications vehicles; manage student advisory committee.
  • Employer relations: Work with employers domestically and internationally to create new recruiting options for non-academic career paths, generate partnerships, and broaden career learning opportunities for graduate students and postdocs.
  • Data analytics: Design and manage processes to collect and report on data on engagement, impact and outcomes. Oversee survey design and execution and analysis of results. Produce data for annual reports and other communications.
  • Team management: Recruit and manage team of graduate student fellows to design and execute career-related programming and build online resources in collaboration with the Director of Graduate and Postdoctoral Career Services. Identify and implement project management software and tools. Other management duties may be assigned.

Required Education and Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and five years of experience in career services with experience in employer relations and student advising; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a high-performing team in a fast-paced and changing environment and make responsible decisions that create positive outcomes for stakeholders. High degree of initiative to identify opportunities to improve existing programs and processes and to develop new ones.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, initiate and manage projects involving a high degree of detail and requiring strong organization and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with qualitative and quantitative data, engaging in evidence-based analysis, and producing reports utilizing these data.
  • Excellent public speaking, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform successful outreach, build relationships, and work collaboratively with a broad and diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Preferred Education and Experience: PhD degree in any discipline, preferably with some non-academic work experience. Experience working with graduate students and postdocs, preferably in an advisory capacity, with solid knowledge of graduate and postdoctoral education and training.
