Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a background in biological sciences to serve as a laboratory technician in the Department of Oral Biology, University at Buffalo, South Campus. Work will be performed in a laboratory that uses a multi-faceted approach to study how the human fungal pathogenCandida albicansinteracts with host epithelial cells to cause disease. The successful candidate should be able to manage multiple detail-oriented tasks with minimal supervision, capable of trouble-shooting and critical thinking, self-motivated, dedicated and creative. Excellent organizational skills, ability to work well with others, and willingness to learn new lab techniques and follow instructions are key.

• Preparation of yeast and mammalian cell cultures
• DNA / RNA isolation from yeast and mammalian cell cultures
• Protein purification using chromatography techniques
• Molecular assays such as real-time qPCR and ELISA
• Preparation of protein samples and Western blotting
• Work with laboratory mice (colony management, genotyping)
• Microscopy (light, epifluorescence, confocal)

Minimum Qualifications

Requires an Associate’s degree or two years formal training

Some bench lab experience

Preferred Qualifications

• BA/BS in Science Degree or equivalent
• Experience with mammalian cell cultures
• Management of mouse colonies
• Experience in protein purification and Western blotting
• Basic molecular biology experience including DNA / RNA isolation
