The University of Houston invites nomination and applications in the search for the next dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS). The college is the heart of the university, dedicated to spurring intellectual curiosity, creativity and transformative education. Encompassing humanities, social sciences and health sciences, CLASS is truly a mosaic of disciplines that broaden perspectives, inspire potential and advance possibilities yet unimagined. It is the largest and most diverse of the 17 colleges at the University of Houston (UH), with student enrollment of over 10,000. The college has 665 faculty (more than 270 of whom are tenured or tenure-track). These nationally and internationally recognized professors excel in scholarly research, teach a wide range of outstanding courses and offer service to their departments, CLASS, the university and the wider community.

Reporting directly to the provost, the dean is the chief executive officer of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) and is responsible for providing the academic leadership and vision necessary for setting strategic, operational and financial directions. This includes strategic planning, personnel hiring and evaluation, student success, academic program development, professional accreditations, interdisciplinary collaborations, and fiscal management and efficiency. The dean has overall responsibility for developing an effective, collegial environment that supports excellence in research, teaching and service. The college seeks a leader who embraces diversity and fosters a climate in which students, faculty and staff from all backgrounds are supported in reaching their full potential.
