Global Learner Support Specialist

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Global Learner Support, and collaborating with Student Services, the Global Learner Support Specialist provides language, cultural, and academic support to international and domestic students enrolled at San Francisco-Bay Area campuses located in downtown San Francisco and San Jose.

Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities associated with this role include organizing and leading cultural programming, planning and delivering workshops, leading English language tutorials, teaching non-credit courses, recruiting staff and student volunteers to lead workshops and other student events, and publicizing student events. The Global Learner Support Specialist will also work with colleagues at other locations in Northeastern's global campus network to ensure Bay Area students have access, where appropriate, to programming originating on other campuses.

Qualifications:
Master's degree preferred and at least two years of experience providing student support to students in a higher education setting. Demonstrated experience working with international students and second language learners with a strong understanding of the distinct needs of these populations. English as a Second Language teaching experience is required. Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills (both verbal and written) are requried. Computer skills and experience in working with databases are required. Excellent skills in relationship building, professional presentation, and customer service are required. Ability to manage many tasks simultaneously, take initiative, follow through with projects, and work as an integral member of a team are key assets for this role.

Salary Grade:
10
