Associate Vice President of Inclusive Excellence

Summary:
We are Utah Valley University and have the largest student enrollment among public universities in the state, approximately 40,000 students. The Division of Student Affairs at UVU is excited to announce the search for the inaugural Associate Vice President for Inclusive Excellence. This position is a key member of the Student Affairs Executive Leadership Team and reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs, UVU's Senior Student Affairs Officer (SSAO). An ideal candidate is prepared to assume the leadership of the following departments: Office of Accessibility Services, First-Generation Student Success Center, International Student Services, Multicultural Student Services, Veterans Success Center and the Women's Success Center. This newly realigned portfolio brings together a leadership team that has experience working together along with other departments realigned from other Student Affairs portfolios and a candidate who has a strategic vision to sustain and strengthen this portfolio.

The AVP for Inclusive Excellence in Student Affairs provides leadership, vision, and advocacy in three key areas of student success to foster persistence and completion: (1) Supervision of departments and services that provide unique and specialized services for students including: Office of Accessibility Services, First-Generation Student Success Center, International Student Services, Multicultural Student Services, Veterans Success Center, and the Women's Success Center; (2) Collaboration with and support for UVU's campus-wide Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts—especially student-focused initiatives; and (3) Development of new resources through fundraising and grant-writing to support departmental, divisional, and university Inclusive Excellence goals. The AVP-IE also works cross-divisionally within Student Affairs and across the university and in the community to support university student success goals.

  • Leads and supports departmental leaders in the Office of Accessibility Services, the First-Generation Student Success Center, International Student Services, Multicultural Student Services, the Veterans Success Center, and the Women's Success Center. Coordinates with VP of Student Affairs to provide alignment of departmental vision with overall university goals. The primary focus of departmental efforts should be on current UVU students and supporting them towards persistence and completion. Fulfills general leadership, administrative, and management functions including but not limited to: overall fiscal oversight and management for division budgets, leadership engagement and development, divisional communication, and collaboration with the division of People and Culture on personnel matters.
  • Collaborates with leaders and executives in Student Affairs and across campus on programs, initiatives, and committees that support divisional goals, university goals, and overall student success. Builds positive relationships with the Provost's Office and the Academic Affairs division for improved curricular and co-curricular student support.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to support institutional DEI plans and efforts including participation (and leadership) on campus-wide committees.
  • Provides leadership to divisional departments in the development of fundraising goals and activities, and advisory board engagement. Works closely with the division of Institutional Advancement to keep the division current with fundraising approaches and practices and to collaborate on cross-divisional fundraising efforts. Leads professional development efforts for departmental leaders to become stronger storytellers of student impact. Collaborates with S.A. Major Gifts Officer on fundraising for divisional priorities.
  • Develops a strong culture of impact assessment with the team to ensure that resources are used effectively and efficiently for student impact and success. Holds team accountable for key performance indicators on the impact of departmental services on student success.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree
Five years of progressive experience including supervision of personnel, budget management and strategic planning and implementation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of student support programming in higher education
  • Knowledge of culturally responsible and culturally relevant approaches to student services in higher education
  • Knowledge of organizational leadership and management including planning, employee development, and assessment and evaluation
  • Knowledge of program assessment, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Effective communication in delivery (both in oral and written formats) and judgment (timing, platform, setting, etc.)
  • Leadership skills for employee support and development (coaching, mentoring, training)
  • Project management
  • Budget management
  • Time management and organization.
  • Demonstrate commitment to UVU’s mission of student access and exceptional care
  • Seek out and interpret critical information related to areas of supervision (i.e. federal, state, and local regulations
  • Collaborate and build relationships with diverse individuals and groups
  • Provide leadership and coaching to direct reports
  • Scan and effectively address organizational structures, cultures, and politics to facilitate student success
  • Utilize data to tell stories of impact for fundraising and grant writing efforts


Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral or other terminal degree
Seven years of leadership experience in higher education
Experience working in student programming to support historically underserved students

Physical Requirements:
General office environment requires ability to see, hear, speak, fine hand manipulation for computer work, standing, walking. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.Light physical effort; requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 lbs or some standing and/or walking.
