The Department of Athletics

California State University, San Bernardino is an NCAA Division II member, competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The University seeks an individual who has demonstrated success in attracting campus and community support. The CCAA has been one of the nation's most successful intercollegiate athletic conferences since its establishment in 1938. CCAA members have won 154 NCAA Championships (102 men, 52 women) which is far and away the most of any Division II conference. Job Summary
  • Under the general supervision of the Associate Athletics Director for Administration, this position will assist with all phases of administering a comprehensive compliance program.
  • The Compliance Coordinator will use industry best practices to support NCAA Division II, CCAA, and university compliance, monitoring, and rules education.
  • Working knowledge of, and ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the program and/or administrative specialty to develop conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Knowledge and experience with the application of NCAA, CCAA, and CSU rules and regulations; thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations about the applicable program and/or administrative specialty; working knowledge of operational analysis and techniques; ability to take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.


  • COMPLIANCE MONITORING
    • Monitors compliance with NCAA and CCAA legislation including all policies, procedures, workflows, and forms involved in managing the Athletics Department.
    • Manages compliance monitoring and recruiting software to track CARA logs, coach recruiting activity, prospect lists, playing and practice seasons, complimentary admission, recruiting visits, and other compliance workflows and forms.
    • Manage the execution and analysis of prospective and current student-athlete complimentary admissions.


    ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
    • Assists with various day-to-day compliance administrative duties, tryouts, and walk-on procedures, student-athlete roster management, athletic participation, investigation, and reporting of NCAA rules violations, and NCAA rules interpretations.
    • Assist with preparation of waivers and rules violation investigations, as needed
    • Evaluate and analyze initial eligibility of prospective student-athletes and develop and communicate recommendations to coaches and prospects. Track the status of prospective student-athletes and communicate with NCAA Eligibility Center staff.
    • Track the status of incoming and outgoing student-athletes within the NCAA Transfer Portal.
    • Provide administrative support, coordination, and oversight of travel-related transactions and processes for the Athletics Department in support of athletic teams and athletics coaches and staff.
    • Assist with updating departmental manuals for student-athletes and coaches
    • Disseminate NCAA interpretations, educational columns, and legislation, as necessary.


    RULES EDUCATION
    • In coordination with the Director of Compliance, prepare and conduct rules education session presentations to university and athletic department personnel, student-athletes, families of prospects and current student-athletes, and representatives of athletics interests.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NCAA, CCAA, and University policies, bylaws, interpretations, and case precedent.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Administer student-athlete textbook program.
    • May act on behalf of the Associate AD for Administration in his/her absence.


    Employment Status: Full-time, "exempt", probationary position (with the possibility of converting to permanent).

    Work Schedule
    • Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; evenings and weekends on a limited basis to support division-wide programming.



    Key Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of, and ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the program and/or administrative specialty to develop conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the applicable program and/or administrative specialty; working knowledge of operational analysis and techniques; ability to take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Strong communication skills to clearly explain options and solutions to end-users.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with a high level of confidentiality and discretion.



  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree and/or the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs, PLUS two (2) years of related experience.



    Preferred Qualifications
    • Knowledge in Athletics and/or higher education.
    • Demonstrated analytical skills utilizing independent judgment and accountability.
    • An advanced degree (Masters or Juris Doctorate) is preferred.
    • Work experience in Division I or II compliance.
    • Three (3) to five (5) years of professional work experience.
    • One (1) to three (3) years experience working in an intercollegiate athletics department or related field.
    • Knowledge and experience with the application of NCAA, CCAA, and CSU rules and regulations.
    • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
    • Experience with NCAA Applications (Compliance Assistant, LSDBI, Eligibility Center).



    Salary

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,167.00 - $4,583.00 monthly

    Classification Salary Range: $3,352.00 - 5,639.00 monthly
