Assistant Director Research
Reporting to the Director of Research Administration within the
College of Engineering, the Assistant Director is a responsible
lead for assigned grant processes. Additionally, the incumbent will
manage his/her own portfolio.
The Assistant Director will provide dedicated professional-level
sponsored funds management with primary responsibility for
post-award functions that include, but may not be limited to,
account maintenance and oversight, billing/invoicing, reporting,
compliance, and closeout. Works independently on a highly complex
assigned portfolio that may include multiple Center grants. May
also support proposal functions that include, but may not be
limited to, proposal preparation, budget development, and
submission.
This position service as a resource guide for departmental faculty and other administrators for research administration policies, processes, and activities. On behalf of faculty and our College, you will routinely interact with sponsor contacts, the University’s central offices, and collaborating institutions as needed. The Assistant Director will take on an increasingly complex and diverse research portfolio and will serve as backup in the Director’s absence.Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and at least five years related post-award
research administration or non-profit finance/accounting
experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience
may be considered.
Required Skills & Abilities:
* Ability to lead through adversity across multiple operational
areas.
* Frequent direct interaction with faculty, senior administrators
and staff.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to prioritize work well and focus on completion of
tasks.
* Collaborates well with others, acts decisively, and makes sound
judgments when called for.
Preferred:
* MBA or Master’s Degree in business, accounting, finance, or
experience in grant management, administrative operations, and
human resource areas
* Knowledge of Uniform Guidance
* Prior experience with international sponsors/funding
