The Division of Cardiology is seeking a Clinical Nurse who will work at the Columbia and Odenton outpatient locations. This position is accountable for the delivery of comprehensive care, in collaboration with the Cardiologist and other members of the health care team, to the client population through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation; This role helps foster an environment that optimizes client well-being and outcomes.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Clinical:

  • Maintain accurate working knowledge of exercise stress testing equipment.
  • Assists the technician and the physician during nuclear echo; assesses the patient prior to and throughout the procedure, initiates IV access and injections.
  • Perform and provides preliminary interpretation of EKG’s. Maintains emergency equipment and emergency pharmacy box.


Patient:

  • Provides safe, therapeutic patient care in collaboration with licensed providers.
  • Initiates drug therapies as ordered by the cardiologist and through comprehensive patient management, proper drug utilization and collaboration with the physician, manages titration of those drug therapies, including ongoing management of blood-thinning agents.
  • Applies Holter and Event monitors, provides patient education on the indication and use of these monitors.
  • Reviews ECG’s transmitted.
  • Resolves patient questions and concerns over the telephone and my chart collaborating with the physician when necessary, informing the physician of actions taken and instructions given to the patient.
  • Follow patient to assess outcomes of action taken and instruction given.
  • Provide patient education for pre and post procedures, medication and dietary needs.

Administrative:

  • Formulates nursing diagnosis and established priorities of care.
  • Refills prescriptions in compliance with office policy.
  • Maintains current BCLS and ACLS certification ensuring emergency care if needed in the office.
  • Maintains an environment in compliance with OSHA and JCAHO standards.
  • Maintains cost effective budgets and bills for services rendered when applicable.
  • Tracks and trends patient flow, procedures, tests.
  • Statistical analysis.


Equipment:

  • Orders and maintains equipment for proper, efficient, clinic effectiveness.
  • Defibrillators, Pacemaker programmers from all companies, treadmills, EKG machines, Holter and Event monitors.
Minimum Qualifications:

Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing. Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline preferred. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Acceptable completion of the JHH credentialing process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have at least 2 years of clinical experience in cardiology, knowledge of PPMs and ICDs desired.
  • Prior research experience is desired but not essential.

Preferred Qualifications: Position requires excellent interpersonal skills, good oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with individuals of varying ages, educational, and socioeconomic levels.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
