Job Description

The Coordinators for Student Programming serve as part of a team of professionals in Student Engagement & Campus Life (SECL), that provides education, guidance, and services to students and student organizations at Virginia Tech. The primary responsibilities of the Coordinators are to 1) advise two university chartered student organizations (the Virginia Tech Union and The Big Event- one Coordinator and the Black Student Alliance and the Homecoming Board- one Coordinator) 2) create and execute programmatic offerings for graduate students and special events on campus, and 3) supervise a graduate assistant. This includes working with student organization leadership and members, university policies, internal and external partners, budget oversight, event planning and coordination, and supervision. Utilizing a student-driven philosophy, the Coordinator will engage students in meaningful ways to ExperienceVT with focus on the Division’s Aspirations for Student Learning. These positions will work closely with the Assistant Director of Programming to implement programmatic experiences. The Coordinators for Student Programming report to the Assistant Director, Student Programming.

Required Qualifications

A collaborative and learning-centered professional with a Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field is required by the start of appointment. 1-2 years of experience in student affairs or higher education. Demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, and inclusion. Above average communications skills are essential, as well as, a desire to work in a teamwork-focused environment, which includes colleagues, and students. Evening and weekend work required.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in large-scale programming, advising student organizations, and working with university policy. 1-2 years working with student organizations and/or large-scale programs. Proficiency with computer programs. Budgetary oversight experience is desired.
