Remote Opportunity: This position although listed as a position in Syracuse, NY, is not tied to this region. This position can be executed from any of the 48 continuous states.

In addition to being the lead recruiter for intensive pre-academic training programs for international undergraduate and graduate students at the English Language Institute, the Recruitment Specialist International Programs works closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Director International Programs on building pathways with international partners for the university’s burgeoning online and part-time degree programs.

The Recruitment Specialist International Programs is a combined on-site/remote position with some international travel. The position requires attentive follow-up with international partners and college leadership on time-sensitive matters. The position holder also works closely with the admissions and the student success teams at the University on devising ways to provide the best possible support for international students prior to their matriculation, with a view towards maximizing their engagement and integration in the University community. Candidates who fulfill the job requirements and are interested in working remotely are encouraged to apply. The position typically requires physical presence at the SU campus and at least 1-3 times per year for meetings and events (normal travel and accommodation expenses for in-person meetings on campus will be covered by the University). Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Two (2) plus years of experience working in a university setting, preferably in a recruitment capacity required.
  • Language skills and cultural knowledge relevant to one or more of the following countries/regions: China (required), Middle East, Japan, Southeast Asia, Latin America required.
  • Adept at Microsoft Office suite, social media platforms, and other web-based applications required.
  • Must hold U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status required.
  • Experience working with international agents and international education industry professionals preferred.
  • Work experience or study experience abroad preferred.
  • Project management qualification and/or experience preferred.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Ability to seek out information on day-to-day operations of ELI and international programs at the College of Professional Study, and vet potential partners for suitability.
  • Familiarity with foreign business practices (especially China) and knowledge of Mandarin language skills to evaluate reliability of potential partners.
  • Ability to work with partners to learn about industry trends, both domestically and internationally.
  • Affinity for international students and scholars; language skills in one of the major world languages (Mandarin, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish or Portuguese) a plus; Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
  • Experience interacting with/teaching high school age students and adult learners.
  • Knowledge of the international education industry and current trends.
  • Ability to manage a website utilizing digital marketing tools.
  • Knowledge of undergraduate and graduate admissions requirements for various Syracuse University degrees, as well as degree programs at universities with whom the ELI has signed articulations agreements.
  • Ability to travel and work in non-U.S. cultural settings.
Responsibilities
  • Grow enrollments for the English Language Institute’s existing pre-academic programs and devise recruitment strategies for programs in development.
  • Serve as first point-of-contact on flagship international student programs for the College of Professional Studies and internal stakeholders.
  • Elevate matters of concern with international stakeholders to Director International Programs and Associate Dean for Academic affairs in a timely fashion.
  • Manage portfolio of agreements with international education consultants/agents.
  • Provide up-to-date materials and media kits for agents to use to promote the college’s programs.
  • Ensure compliance with Syracuse University MARCOMs guidelines.
  • Track status of all agreements and categorize them according to level of productivity.
  • Maintain regular communications with consultants and develop mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Seek out partnerships with US universities to fulfill English language requirements for conditional admission into their degree programs and manage existing regional partner network.
  • Grow network of international partner universities sending students to the English Language Institute ( ELI ) for semester abroad.
  • Play supporting role to Director International programs in partnerships with sponsoring organizations (e.g., Fulbright/ IIE /Amideast/ OSF ) and keep abreast of grant opportunities for pre-academic training programs.
  • Maintain open communication with the ELI team to understand its evolving academic programs and offerings, as well the range of student services provided.
  • Provide feedback to ELI staff on knowledge about funding opportunities, trends, etc., acquired from work in the field.
  • Work in conjunction the Director International Programs and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to establish and maintain relationships with internal partners, including recruiters and admissions officers at Syracuse University.
