Assistant Professor/ Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering position, beginning August 2022.  Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate mechanical engineering courses and developing externally-funded research programs. In addition, they include advising students and participating in service activities in the profession and for the university. 

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field; college-level teaching experience and demonstrated scholarly research. Candidates must have research and teaching interests in robotics, mechatronics, and control theory or similar areas of expertise. Candidates will be expected to develop original and independent research as well as to collaborate with current faculty in the department. 

New Mexico Tech is located in Socorro, in the scenic Rio Grande River Valley of central New Mexico, 75 miles south of Albuquerque with its many attractions, and 139 miles south of Santa Fe. New Mexico Tech specializes in science and engineering education and research, and has an enrollment of approximately 2000 undergraduate and graduate students.   The Mechanical Engineering Department has B.S., M.S., M.E., and Ph.D. programs with areas of specialization including: mechatronics/robotics/control, explosives/energetics, high-strain rate solid mechanics, and fluid/thermal sciences.  The Department consists of 13 fulltime faculty and several adjunct faculty from nearby national labs, and approximately 380 undergraduate and graduate students.
