Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Position Summary: The Coordinator is responsible for the strategic direction, planning and development of a co-curricular leadership development program, which includes a residential living and learning experience. This position is responsible for the training, development, oversight and mentorship of the Head Resident and Resident Assistant. The coordinator s ensures that facilities receive proper attention, the student code of conduct, and housing policies and procedures are enforced and the staff is equipped to provide leadership within the residential community. These responsibilities include the development, implementation and regular review of policies and procedures, the coaching of student staff in communication strategy, mediation processes, problem analysis and resolution. The Coordinator also works with staff to develop and assess social and educational programs, living and learning communities and other student community building initiatives to enrich the student residential experience, promote retention and improve student satisfaction while ensuring that programming resources are used in a way to maximize effectiveness and accountability. Work involves moderate decision making and judgement. This is a live-on position that includes room and board.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

1. Manage the administrative processes associated with the Head Resident and Resident Assistant staff, including recruitment, application, and selection processes; summer, mid-year and periodic training initiatives and informational sessions; monitoring of required office hours, duty logs and incident reports and creation of duty schedules. Ensure that selected staff meet or exceed expected standards. Develop, oversee, and evaluate training programs to ensure that staff demonstrate competency in the areas of facility management, safety and security, student conduct, housing policies and procedures, mental health awareness and program development.

2. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate all Head Residents and Resident Assistants, both on an individual and group basis, to ensure that performance is consistent with housing policies, procedures, and objectives on an ongoing basis. Coach student staff in problem analysis and resolution, mediation techniques, as well as incident documentation and referral. Develop and monitor systems to assess whether student work satisfies the Engaged Learning general education learning goal associated those roles.

3. Serve as the primary Conduct Officer for all housing related policy violations. This includes holding students accountable and providing educational outcomes to assist and/or provide residents with better tools to make more informed decisions in the future.

4. In collaboration with the student staff, Student Engagement personnel and other University partners, develop, implement, and oversee a residential co-curriculum that compliments classroom learning, reflects the institutional mission and Student Engagement values, furthers the goals of residential community living and enhances the student experience. Evaluate the effectiveness of co-curricular programming, including student learning outcomes achieved, student engagement in program initiatives and community building activities and persistence in residential living.

Other Functions:

1. Actively participate in the leadership team that provides guidance, planning and execution of activities and events in which the Center is involved, including Leadership Council, orientation and onboarding programs and faculty/staff involvement and training initiatives.
2. Working with the Director, identify and develop strategic goals for building and enhancing student community within each living area.
3. Represent the department at institutional events, including those related to recruitment and retention.
4. Serves as back up to Director as needed.

Required Qualifications:



Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Leadership or a related field required.

Experience: One or more years of experience in higher education, Student Affairs preferred. General understanding of college student development

Specific Skills: Interpersonal / human relations skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to mentor students effectively.
Ability to recognize programmatic trends in the Higher Education field in organizing guidelines for yearly programs in line with the University’s mission.
Set goals and priorities, make reasoned and balanced decisions in moderately complex situations, and meet deadlines.

Specific Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications: Knowledge of StarRez preferred

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Use of computer screen, phone, and customer service.
May require bending or sitting for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Supervisory Responsibility (if applicable): Student Resident Assistants and Head Residents

Working Conditions: Live-in position with normal office conditions. Flexibility in schedule to accommodate evening and weekend events is required.
