The Student Success Advocate delivers programs and services dedicated to ensure OPTIMISE Rural NC students have the support they need to achieve academic excellence from matriculation to graduation. Reporting to the OPTIMISE Rural NC Program Director, the position will partner with departments across campus to ensure the academic needs of students are met. -Provide academic advisement and support -Develop and implement services and initiatives that strengthen student education using relevant student development theories and practices -Assist with planning and coordination of recruitment and training events -Prepare reports based on student progress and regularly communicate the progress, outcomes and direction of work to the Program Director -Coordinate outreach efforts to raise awareness of the program -Maintain regular communication with faculty and key partners to assess and address the needs of students -Network to develop new field training sites and provide job placement services for new OPTIMISE Rural NC graduates -Provide “coaching” and problem solving for students and field training site supervisors to ensure program goals are met.
This is a grant-funded, time-limited position through June 30, 2025. Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: • Master’s degree in social work or counseling.
• Demonstrated knowledge of integrated behavioral healthcare settings.
• Expertise in delivering program and education services to diverse populations
• Ability to acknowledge, affirm and advocate for under-represented groups
• Ability to navigate university systems to pull, interpret, and analyze data and adapt programming accordingly
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal, public relations, organizational and communication skills
• Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
• Computer literacy knowledge and ability to utilize office equipment and computer software Special Instructions to Applicants: This position is subject to the successful completion of an employment background check. An employment background check includes a criminal background check, employment verification, reference checks, license verification (if applicable) and credit history check (if applicable).
