Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Prevention & Wellness oversees and implements programs and services that support the strategy and objectives of Prevention & Wellness.

Job Description

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

• Participates in the strategic planning for assigned areas and assists the Director in developing and implementing the overall departmental strategic plan.

• Oversees the department functions including the creation, implementation, and promotion of programs related to health education and holistic health awareness, bystander intervention, special wellness programs, events, workshops, and services.

•Develops community-based education strategies and outreach programs.

• Collaborates with other campus departments and services to support programming initiatives and ensure awareness of student issues/concerns.

• Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff and part-time student employees.

• Oversees department marketing efforts.

• Develops, administers, and analyzes annual assessment of programs. Prepares and evaluates statistical, analytical, and narrative reports to be used for decision making and program improvement.

• Purchases equipment, supplies, and services in accordance with University procurement policies and procedures.

• Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate success of assigned area of responsibility.

Other Duties:

•Serves on institutional committees representing the interests of the department.

•Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Student Personnel/Higher Education Administration, College Student Development, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or closely related field.

Four years of professional full-time experience in college health education, student mental health, college student development, crisis intervention, educational or student support programming.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Experience training, supervising, and evaluating professional and student staff.

Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in health promotion, public health, counseling or student affairs administration.

Five years of professional, full-time experience in health promotion and/or education.

Prevention and/or intervention experience with such issues as alcohol and drug use, abuse, and dependence, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, LGBT programs, suicide prevention and intervention.

Success in developing internal and external partnerships to achieve collective goals to promote social change.

Experience with social marketing and innovative technology to enhance outreach efforts.

Experience with consultation and collaboration with other service areas such as counseling service or primary health care.

Experience with the Campus Labs/Anthology platform.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of health education and basic counseling skills and ability to apply in areas of educational presentations, program assessment, personal wellness, problem solving, conflict resolution, and group management.

Knowledge and understanding of management principles, practices, and standards, as applied to public institutions.

Knowledge of budget control principles, practices and procedures in alignment with state and university guidelines and codes.

Knowledge of FERPA.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.

Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents, and volunteers.

Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices to the organizational structure.

Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.

Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs.

Ability to supervise and train assigned staff.

Ability to develop and deliver training presentations and programs.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.

Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgement in the establishment, interpretation, application, and enforcement of all rules, regulations, and policies.

$50,000 - $54,000 annually
