Overview
The Department of
Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies (DARS) at East Carolina
University began in 1967 with a degree in Rehabilitation
Counseling. The first students graduated in 1969. Currently, the
department has the following degree programs: B.S. in
Rehabilitation Services, M.S. in Clinical Counseling with an
emphasis in addictions, M.S. in Rehabilitation and Career
Counseling, and Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Counseling and
Administration; both masters programs and the doctoral program are
CACREP accredited. The department also has the following graduate
certificate programs: Military and Trauma Counseling (MTC),
Rehabilitation Counseling (RC), and Substance Abuse Counseling
(SAC). DARS also supports a faculty-directed, student operated
counseling clinic call the Navigate Counseling Clinic.
Job Duties
As a
full-time, tenure-track or tenured faculty position, the successful
candidate will support the Department of Addictions and
Rehabilitation Studies’ mission with excellence in teaching,
research, service, and leadership. The successful candidate will be
expected to teach at all curricular levels. The successful
candidate will serve as the Director of the PhD in Rehabilitation
Counseling and Administration program. Also, the successful
candidate will implement, sustain, and/or direct grant funded
research studies on a topic pertinent to DARS’ mission. The
successful candidate will also engage in service/leadership
activities at the department through international levels.
Minimum Education/Experience
- PhD in Counseling from a CACREP accredited program, or a doctoral degree in a closely related field and one-year full time experience as a faculty in a counselor education program.
- Candidates who are “all but dissertation (ABD)” will be considered with the requirement of degree completion prior to date of hire.
- Possession of or eligibility for NC licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor or Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
- Expertise/interest, via teaching, research, and/or service/leadership, in the intersection of racism and mental health, and the associated barriers to seeking and completing clinical and/or rehabilitation counseling.
- Expertise/interest, via teaching and/or service/leadership, in CACREP accredited doctoral curriculum development.
- Possession of or eligibility for NC licensure as a Clinical Addictions Specialist, possession of or eligibility for certification as a Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC).
