Director, Career and Professional Education (Admin II)

Classification Title: Administrator II

Job Summary:
The Director of Career and Professional Education (Director) reports to the Associate Dean, Strategic Initiatives within the College of Continuing Education (CCE) and leads all degree completion and master's degree programs, special session programs and academic and continuing education professional certificates within CCE. The Director has a high degree of independence and high level of autonomy, and may make commitments on behalf of CCE all while maintaining a focus on equity and inclusion.
The Director identifies potential new programs for academic degree programs, academic and continuing education certificates and course ideas that can be offered in self-support in collaboration with academic colleges at Sacramento State. Developing a close working relationship with staff, faculty, department chairs, associate deans and deans is essential for success. The Director ensures that all relevant processes are attended to on campus, with accreditation organizations and with the CSU Chancellor's Office. The Director ensures that all relevant course and certificate program reviews are conducted and that the programs meet the assessment and self-study requirements of the campus and its academic policies.
The Director will have a keen sense of which programs will be attractive in Sacramento State's service area, will be able to assess demand, forecast program or cohort starts, and will be able to evaluate and recommend modality, program content and desired learning outcomes for prospective students. The Director is able to inspire and lead a diverse, talented team of individuals and help them achieve similar skills in developing new programs and delivering existing programs.

FLSA: MPP - This position is defined in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. It is excluded from the collective bargaining process and is exempt from overtime provisions of FLSA. This position is covered by health benefits.

Department Information:
The College of Continuing Education (CCE) has been offering workshops, courses, certificates, and degrees to adult learners since 1951. CCE has evolved over the years to meet regional and statewide needs through a variety of services for the community. Currently, CCE cultivates and maintains strong relationships with local and state government leaders and policy makers by offering innovative education, training, and workforce solutions. Additionally, CCE provides service and expertise to Californians through conferences, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building among diverse stakeholders to address complex issues that inform public policy and constituent groups.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
1. A demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.
2. 5+ years of experience in planning classes and curriculum programs including developing resources, budgets, marketing plans and liaising with the community.
3. Knowledge of procedures and practices in educational programs and curriculum planning in education.
4. Ability to determine needs for new or revised programs and knowledge of current labor market and workforce development trends.
5. Experience in leading, managing, and motivating a team of diverse individuals that possess different goals and have distinctly different roles.
6. Ability to interpret policy, implement planning techniques, establish performance metrics, and utilize technology for organizational effectiveness.
7. Ability to direct logistics of providing classes and programs to diverse audiences at multiple locations.
8. Experience managing, developing and forecasting program budgets and analyzing costs.
9. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with internal and external constituents.
10. Experience developing and implementing promotional strategies and marketing initiatives.
11. Proven track record of business and political acumen.
12. Strong organizational and project management skills to handle a large number of assignments with sensitivity to priorities, and shifting demands.
13. Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues and implement creative solutions to complex problems.
14. Outstanding communication skills (verbal or written).
15. Master’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in education, business, public administration or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
16. Experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
17. 8+ years of experience in higher education or continuing education.
18. Doctorate degree from an accredited university, preferably in education, public administration, business administration or a related field.
