Job Description
The Santa Ana College School of Continuing Education at Centennial Education Center wishes to develop a pool of qualified applicants for part-time and substitute teaching opportunities in this discipline.

Responsibilities
Teach all assigned classes, which may include evening or off-campus assignments, clinical training, and related activities unless excused according to Board Policy provisions. Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress. Plan, conduct and supervise classroom and clinical activities including practical and return demonstration of procedures in accordance with approved program. Assist in maintaining course outline for each assigned course. Be familiar with and observe the administrative regulations as they appear in the Faculty Handbook (flex calendar obligations, course overviews, etc.). Participate in department committees and activities. Will teach a variety of courses/levels within the discipline/area of study.

Minimum Qualifications
(Applicants must meet any of the following):
  • Possess from an accredited institution: A Bachelor's degree and two years of occupational experience (non-teaching) related to Nursing, OR an Associate degree and six years of occupational experience (non-teaching) related to Nursing, Note: A verification of employment letter must be provided to support the two (2) or six (6) years of occupational (non-teaching) experience, OR
  • Possession of a full time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in Nursing, OR
  • The equivalent (applicants who do not meet the above minimum qualifications must complete the Equivalencies Section in the application form and provide conclusive evidence of such).

    Note:
    In addition to the Minimum Qualifications listed above, the Nursing Assistant Training Program Instructors should be a Registered Nurse (RN) who at a minimum meets the requirements as stated in Title 22. Applicants must meet all of the following:
    1. Two (2) Years of Nursing Experience (RN)
    2. One (1) Year of verifiable experience as a licensed nurse, providing care and services to chronically ill or elderly patients in an acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, hospice care, or other long-term care setting.
    3. Completion of a course in teaching adults (need to provide certificate of completion) OR one (1) year of verifiable experience in teaching adults. OR one (1) year of verifiable experience supervising nurse aides
    4. Active RN license and BLS/CPR certification.

    Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience in teaching students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and widely varying levels of proficiency preferred.
  • A working knowledge of and experience with student learning outcomes and assessment.

    Based upon the information presented on the application materials, a limited number of candidates with qualifications most pertinent to the position will be invited to participate in the selection process, which may include a written test and oral interview.

    Interview
    Applicants selected for an interview may be required to take additional tests or assessments and will be notified of such prior to the date of the interview. During the oral session, those selected for interviews, in addition to the above, may be evaluated on the following factors:
  • Oral communication skills
  • Presentation
  • Problem solving skills
  • Successful teaching, problem solving or performance demonstration
  • Writing skills/demonstration

    Pre-Employment Requirements
    Candidates selected for employment will be required to provide current verification of a negative TB test or chest x-ray, complete the district's fingerprinting process, and bring proof of their legal right to work in the United States. Cost of TB testing, fingerprinting and the fee for criminal record check will be paid for by the candidates.
