The University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) is seeking a 12-month Program Director to provide leadership and coordination for the RN-to-BSN option of the baccalaureate degree program, an online program which educates registered nurses prepared at the associate degree or diploma levels. The director will work in conjunction with the associate dean for the baccalaureate (BSN) program and the academic department chairs to administer the academic aspects of curriculum development, student progression, and program evaluation. The director will teach within the entry-level curriculum, provide leadership to faculty at UMSON and in the community colleges about the RN-BSN option, prepare reports as needed, and conduct data analyses and quality improvement activities. This is an on-campus position.

Primary Responsibilities:

Reporting to the associate dean for the BSN program for their work in the administrative role, the director will be responsible for assessing student learning outcomes, development of and revisions to RN-to-BSN courses in conjunction with the course faculty, and the creation and implementation of policies and procedures for the RN- to- BSN option. The RN-to-BSN director will provide administrative leadership and program coordination and will support faculty orientation and development needs. The director, working with the academic department chairs, will provide oversight for curriculum development, student progression, didactic instruction, and academic advising. The director will work with the associate dean and staff in the Office of Student and Academic Affairs in the recruitment initiatives and with review of RN-to-BSN applications as well as provide virtual orientation for newly enrolled students. The director will coordinate the tracking and reporting of the dual admission students, students in special standing, and serve as the academic contact between the community college faculty and staff and the UMSON. The director will be responsible for an RN-to-BSN tracking database that will include the academic plans for all RN-to-BSN students. In conjunction with the associate dean for the BSN program, the director will develop advising, student support, and progression procedures for the RN-to-BSN students. Advisement to include flexibility for special students in community colleges and currently matriculated students.

Qualifications :

Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral degree in nursing or related field is required
  • Ability to be licensed as RN in the state of Maryland
  • Evidence of progressive scholarly achievements
  • Experience in teaching at the baccalaureate level
  • Formal preparation or certification in the educator role is preferred
  • Experience in teaching and/or advising RN-to-BSN students is highly preferred.
