The College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) at Kennesaw State University is accepting applications from individuals for a twelve-month, tenured faculty position and appointment as Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies (ADRGS) beginning July 1, 2022.


KSU is a Carnegie-designated doctoral research institution (R2 institution). The CSM has experienced rapid growth in student population as well as research, leading to development of a new PhD program. The ADRGS will serve as a member of the college’s leadership team. In collaboration with a Faculty Research Development Committee, department chairs, and Dean, the ADRGS will implement research enhancement strategies, and oversee all graduate programs. The ADRGS will organize training and mentoring of faculty in research, as needed. The appointment is 60% administrative, with the remaining responsibilities to be negotiated with the Dean.


The ADRGS will serve as a liaison to the Office of Research and will organize/manage inter- departmental Research Interest Groups (RIGs). The ADRGS will oversee compliance with various regulations by principal investigators and monitor safety procedures in college research, in collaboration with various units and committees (e.g., environmental health and safety (EHS), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the College of Science and Mathematics safety officer).


The ADRGS will manage research resources including allocation of space for faculty, staff, and graduate student researchers, and funds for graduate research and teaching assistantships. In collaboration with graduate program directors and a program administrator, the ADRGS will help seek extramural funding to support graduate student education, and will help develop, oversee, and enforce college-wide policies regarding graduate students.


Required qualifications include:

  • D., or its foreign equivalent, and appropriate credentials to be a tenured associate or tenured full professor in one of the College’s academic departments
  • Experience with budget management and supervision of graduate students or staff
  • Record of extramural grant-funding, and research mentorship
  • Experience working with multi-cultural populations and in promoting inclusive excellence in research policies and practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain harmonious working relationships


Preferred qualifications include:

  • Administrative and leadership experience in an academic setting
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in mentoring and supporting faculty career development
  • Experience fostering research collaborations across departments, colleges, or institutions
