POSITION SUMMARY

 

Fisk university seeks a talented faculty member to serve as the Coordinator of Criminal Justice and Homeland Security with a passionate about teaching and learning. The selected faculty will be expected to provide academic advising, mentoring to students, student support, enrollment initiatives and other activities related to the college experience. The Coordinator of Criminal Justice and Homeland Security is responsible for daily operations of the two academic programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Teach a full load (12 hours per semester) in Criminal Justice
  • Engage in Community Service projects
  • Engage in Scholarly Research
  • Attend and present at Professional Conferences in field of expertise
  • Recruit students into the Criminal Justice program
  • Recruit students into the Homeland Security program (Clarksville, Tennessee campus)
  • Serving as the chief academic advisor for Criminal Justice and Homeland Security academic majors.
  • Conducting Junior and Senior audits for the Criminal Justice and Homeland Security majors.
  • Preparing class schedules for the two programs and submitting to the Chair.
  • Proposing curricular changes for the Chair’s review.
  • Routinely monitoring the progress and outcomes of faculty/student advising interventions.
  • Routinely supervising tasks related to student admissions, transfer, and graduation into program.
  • Assisting Chair in leading program reviews and accreditation and ensuring that all required reports, assessment data and meetings are monitored for accuracy and timely submittal to the Chair.
  • Overseeing and monitoring the accuracy and currency of program content placed on the departmental section of the University’s website and Smart Catalog.
  • Assisting the Chair in developing and implementing initiatives that support the University’s student engagement and retention plans to recruit, retain, and increase the graduation rate of students at Fisk.
  • Providing internship opportunities for the criminal justice and homeland security students.
  • Some online teaching experiences recommended.
  • Overseeing all program collaborative initiatives; and
  • Ensuring that the program faculty course rosters, syllabi, and course assessment data are timely submitted to the Chairs.Additional Responsibilities include.

  • Gathering data and preparing detailed documents/reports.
  • Representing the departments and the University.
  • Serving on or chairing committees as appropriate; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Humanities and Behavioral Social Sciences.

 

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Applicants must demonstrate leadership skills by carrying out curricular development, excellence in teaching and scholarly activity and growth in funded research.  

 

. Other qualifications required include.

 

  • ABD accepted but terminal degree must be completed at the end of the second semester of employment. An earned doctorate (Ph. D) from an accredited university or college in Sociology, Criminology, or Criminal Justice preferred.

  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience in a higher educational environment.
  •  
  • Ability with working with diverse population groups.
  •  
  • Good Communication Skills and the ability to work with others.
  •
