Position Summary

The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the department of Ophthalmology. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting research involving biosample collection, processing, management and analysis related to systems biology and genomic approaches.
  • Participate/assist the Principal Investigator in performing research on blinding eye conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and other eye diseases. Will also examine co-morbid conditions that co-segregate with blinding conditions including Alzheimer disease, dyslipidemia, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, etc.,
  • Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in the field of systems biology and genomics.
  • Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in biological sciences or similar discipline, with relevant bench-work experience.
  • Expertise is expected in routine computer use, database searching, and in learning and using new software programs.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Expertise in daily laboratory organization, planning and operations is essential.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Looking for a highly enthusiastic individual who is keen on learning and developing new skills, as well as scientific writing and publications.
  • An individual having experience in modern molecular biology (next generation sequencing library preparation, PCR, RT- PCR, RNA Seq, ATAC -Seq, methylation, single cell and/or single nuclei analysis, agarose gel electrophoresis, cell biology ((light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence/ confocal microscopy), biochemistry (western blot) and mammalian cell culture methods.
  • Experience with biological specimens like blood, serum, plasma, saliva, tissue biopsies.
  • Experience in statistical analysis/bioinformatics of large scientific datasets including plotting graphs, utilizing online database searches, IPA software, R studio, etc.
