Tech Support Specialist, Health Sciences Simulation Lab

Job Summary:
This is a 40 hour per week, hourly position. Responsible for providing technical support in the use of Health Sciences simulation technology. Work with Health Science faculty to determine the best mode of simulation to meet objectives and expectations via IT programming and simulation technology. Leads support efforts of patient simulators, and related instructional technologies for all Health Sciences programs. This position is part of a team that provides planning, design, and technical facilitation services for instructional activities. Assists faculty with development of course content and supports them in a development of effective teaching and learning strategies using a learning content management system (LCMS) and various on-site instructional technologies.

Essential Functions:
1. Provides technical support and expertise to the Nursing Simulation Faculty in the creation of custom learning scenarios that involve building interactive simulated components (limbs, organs, airways, etc.).
2. Collaborates with Health Sciences Faculty in the planning, preparation, and implementation of simulation exercises.
3. Responsible for simulation programming for preventative, triage, and emergency health conditions, by leveraging knowledge of the human anatomy and physiological systems.
4. Supports the process of simulation, including pre- and post-debriefing.
5. Prepares required simulation materials and equipment to support the instruction of simulation.
6. Develops innovative ways to invoke interest and use of technology by faculty to utilize technology within their curriculum.
7. Assists with the design and development of materials that address various learning styles.
8. Responsible for technical, analytical troubleshooting and systematic problem solving.
9. In collaboration with the Nursing Simulation Faculty, ensures that the simulation lab is clean, safe, and organized.
10. Maintains simulation equipment and requests repairs as needed.
11. Keeps inventory of simulation supplies.
12. Supports safe simulation lab practices according to OSHA guidelines.
13. Provides IT support for HESI testing for all health science programs.
14. Explores and recommends new methods of utilizing educational technology and multimedia; helps faculty use these methods in the delivery of their courses.
15. Provides advanced technical support for learning studios and multimedia enabled classrooms.

Other Duties:
16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Accountabilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Dean of Health Sciences, the Health Sciences Simulation Lab Tech Support Specialist is responsible for the overall management and function of the simulation equipment and provides technical expertise and support for the learning activities in the Health Sciences Simulation Lab. Supports specific course/program curricula requirements as mandated by the educational mission and goals of the Health Sciences Department and the College.

Job Specifications:
Associate’s degree in a health science field, information technology or related curriculum. Two years of experience in computer simulation or technical services preferred. Experience with hardware and software trouble shooting. Proficiency in medical terminology preferred. Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology preferred. Good organizational skills required. Strong communication skills required.
