The Graduate Assistant for Housing and Residential Education (GAHRE) supports the department by managing administrative details including administrative meetings, program development and direct student engagement. A major part of the GAHRE is to support the living and learning community of Emerson College by living in residence and providing support, resources, and educational opportunities for students residing in Emerson's residence halls.

The Graduate Assistant for Housing and Residential Education (GAHRE) supports the administrative processes of the department including but not limited to: Student Staff Training, Student Staff Selection and the Community Building Model. The Graduate Assistant would report directly to the Residence Director of Piano Row and would have limited responsibilities within the community working with Community Building, Student Development and assessment. This role serves in an on-call capacity to respond to both emergency and non-crisis situations and operates outside of the standard business hours of the institution and requires work on evenings and weekends. This is a 10-month, part-time position (20 hours a week) in office, and has on-call responsibilities outside of those scheduled hours. This position begins August 2021 and ends in May 2022.

Your Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in the planning and implementation of Student Staff Training and Student Staff Selection.
  
• Support the recruitment and selection of HRE Student Staff, including but not limited to assisting with selection events and interviews, working in the online selection portal, and coordinating interviews.
  
• Engage with the ongoing training and development of the HRE Student Staff
  
• Adjudicate policy violations and update software associated with each documented violation. Serve as a hearing officer for violations and conduct meaningful discussions with students about the decisions they are making. Serve on conduct boards as assigned. Approximately 5 hours per week.
  
• Oversee the tracking and reporting of the Residential Education Community Building Model and compilation of assessment data.
  
• Collect and process weekly student staff interactions across campus to create a weekly report of interactions, a summary of issues within communities, etc. which can be shared with the Associate Director and Area Coordinator for addressing issues within specific communities.
  
• Implement evaluation tools for Student Staff Training, Student Staff Evaluations, Community Building Model, and ongoing staff development.
  
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of written and electronic media communications.
  
• Keep Student Staff apprised of relevant events on and off campus through email, Canvas, and the HRE EmConnect Page.
  
• Manage EmConnect student imports and HRE Page updates and Canvas resources updates/additions.
  
• Support Area Coordinator and Associate Director for Residential Education with ongoing development of Learning Community curriculum and creation of written materials and presentations for Faculty Mentors and Resident Assistants.
  

• Support administrative responsibilities of the department as needed such as preparing items for student distribution, including keys, PPE, any giveaways at move-in, etc.
  
• Assist Housing and Residential Education Staff to prepare for major processes such as the opening and closing of residence halls.
  
• Serve in the primary responder role after hours and on weekends as needed.
  
• Other Duties as assigned.
  

Education, Skills, and Experience:

• Must be a graduate student currently enrolled in a degree-granting program at Emerson College OR a graduate student pursuing an advanced degree in higher education, student affairs or similar degree granting program at College or University in the greater Boston area.
  
• Must have previous work experience in Residential Education or Housing.
  
• Possession of outstanding interpersonal communication and detailed administrative skills required
  
• Commitment to Social Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Identity
  
• Ability to problem solve, use good judgment and think critically
  

• Successful candidates must pass a background check
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficient in use of technology; working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe applications and social media platforms
  
• Skills in the areas of assessment, event planning, technology, and marketing are highly desirable.
  
• Strong writing skills
  
• Prior problem-solving and conflict resolution experience
  
• Ability to develop and nurture a positive community living environment within residence halls

• Resides on Campus in a Residential Community

• Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA)
  
• Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods of time
  
• Ability to lift and carry files and materials
  
• Ability to work outside of standard business hours and weekends on occasion
  

Compensation

This is a 20-hour a week position, five of those hours will be spent supporting Community Standards.

• $15.00 per hour
  
• On-Campus Housing is provided and required to support the residential community and mission of the offices.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 20.00

Hiring Range: $13,793.09 - $14,436.78
