Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage electronic referral work queues for the diabetes self-management education and support program (DSMES).
- Oversee DSMES clinician templates; maximize template utilization
- Collaborates with DSMES team as a leader in process improvement initiatives related to DSMES scheduling and referral processes.
- Provides training to medical office staff regarding scheduling DSMES visits.
- Performs outreach to patients referred to the diabetes education program and schedule appointments.
- Fields questions and provide information regarding the diabetes education program to patients and providers.
- Prepares DSMES referral orders to be signed by physicians and nurse practitioners.
- Processes external DSMES/MNT referrals
- Maintains patient demographic and insurance pre-registration information in Epic.
Minimum Qualifications(Required)
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Three (3) years progressively responsible medical office experience.
- Medical terminology required.
- Experience in the Johns Hopkins system strongly preferred.
Additional education may be substituted for up to one year of experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record.
- Experience with commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid Managed care organizations (MCO).
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Intermediate computer and proofreading skills required.
- Requires a working knowledge of department subspecialties, medical and insurance terminology, referral protocols, insurance plans and medical billing.
- Experience with Epic or other electronic medical record systems strongly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Professional telephone manner.
- Strong Interviewing and interpersonal skills.
- Strong prioritization and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible to changing priorities.
- Positive and enthusiastic attitude and ability to effectively work and interact with all levels within the organization.

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
