Job Summary

The J. Whitney Bunting College of Business (CoB) is seeking an Associate Dean to manage and lead a variety of internal operations critical to enhancing the distinctiveness of the teaching and learning experience. The Associate Dean, reporting to the Dean, will be a member of the senior leadership team in the CoB working alongside Department Chairs, the Director of Graduate Programs of Business, the CoB Outreach Coordinator, the Senior Donor Engagement Officer, and staff colleagues. This position begins July 1, 2022.


1. Strategic Planning and Accreditation (45%)

Coordinate short- and long-term plans formulated by the Dean and the Strategic Management Committee based on the mission and goals of the College and the University. Coordinate AACSB reaccreditation processes and compliance with accreditation standards. Participate in program review and implement improvements to enhance the quality of instruction, academic programs, and research. Assist with College-wide assessment activities (impact planning/assessment and student/alum/engagement outcomes, among others).

2. Governance and Resource Management (45%)

In consultation with the Dean, monitor budgets, payroll, schedules and enrollments, and faculty sufficiency and composition. Utilize analytical abilities for data-informed decision making. Assist department leadership in recruiting faculty/staff and with curriculum management and innovation. Oversee faculty/staff development, including orientation for new and part-time faculty. Liaison for classified personnel, work study students, and graduate assistants, in cooperation with the Dean and program directors. Manage College facilities and equipment, with assistance from the building manager, to promote quality learning.

Serve on governance and other committees and act as representative of the Dean of the College in the absence of the Dean. Collaborate across units to build teams and organizational structures to advance the strategic objectives of the College and University. Assist the Dean by serving as the College’s representative and liaison with other College/University offices, divisions, and committees including areas related to admissions, orientation, and advisement.

3. Teaching and Scholarship (10%)

The Associate Dean will teach two courses (undergraduate or graduate) per academic year and maintain appropriate faculty qualifications status in accordance with current College of Business policies.

Required Qualifications

Qualified candidates for the tenured rank as Full Professor must have a terminal degree in any of the major fields of study within the broad multidisciplinary area of business or in any related fields of study or program areas offered by the College of Business (e.g., Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, Information Systems, etc.). Additionally, qualified candidates must be recognized scholars with active research records in their respective disciplines for the appointment at the rank of Full Professor with tenure at Georgia College & State University. Other required qualifications:

   - the incumbent should hold tenure and rank of Full Professor at previous institution prior to appointment at Georgia College & State University;
   - a record of excellence in service as a Department Head/Chair, Program Director or Coordinator, and/or in other academic leadership roles;
   - exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, including a well-developed sense of fairness and integrity;
   - a record of exemplary teaching within the candidate’s area of specialization;
   - a strong commitment to the public liberal arts mission of the college and university;
   - a demonstrated ability to work effectively with external constituencies;
   - a passion for working with and mentoring students;
   - must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 ( (faculty credentials)) and
   - a commitment to fostering academic excellence, rigor, and distinctiveness in the public liberal arts and in business education.
