Primary Responsibilities
  • Fulfill department administrative duties on a 12-month contract, with reassigned time as appropriate to be approved by the Provost, typically 6 credit hours of instruction per semester, or equivalent. Preferred course needs relate to the non-specialized courses of the department, such as introductory computer programming, discrete structures, and research methods.
  • Support academic planning of the department for academic programs
  • Provide collegial leadership for faculty on the main campus and in online programs
  • Provide oversight of budget, facilities, and equipment (including support for the SEMO CyberRange, CS Research Cluster, and departmental facilities on campus)
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff
  • Oversee student recruitment and retention efforts
  • Supervise administrative staff of the department
  • Advocate for the resource needs of the programs, faculty, staff, and students
  • Oversee undergraduate and graduate programs (including traditional, blended/hybrid, HyFlex, and online) including scheduling courses and special events
  • Provide support for quality research by faculty in the department
  • Provide department reports for various areas within the college and university
  • Ensure departmental programs comply with appropriate ABET accreditation standards
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders

Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in computer science, computer information systems or a closely related discipline (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government certified university.)
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and service sufficient to merit rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure
  • Demonstrated record of leadership experience in an academic setting, such as chairing a department/program (full-time, part-time, or interim), chairing college or university level committees, serving as faculty advisor to a student organization, serving as an officer of a professional society, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to champion the wide range of disciplines within the department, including computer science, computer information systems, cybersecurity, and applied computer science
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, partnerships, and collegiality with a variety of stakeholders including the internal university community
  • Commitment to positive faculty morale and enthusiasm
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multicultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
