Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College has an anticipated opening of Staff Scientist for Environmental Stewardship One Year Grant funded for the Science and Engineering Department.

 

This position will be responsible for coordinating and completing the environmental stewardship and related research and restoration projects conducted by the Center for Environmental Studies at RVCC. Projects involve working with student interns, volunteers and community partners to monitor, maintain and restore a variety of habitats and associated rare species throughout New Jersey. 

 

The position is a Temporary full-time position for one year, with possible renewal contingent upon funding.

 

Responsibilities: 

Assisting the Center co-directors, staff and RVCC administration with all aspects of project development and implementation, including:

 

Vegetation management and environmental stewardship.

 

Training and coordination of student interns.

 

Native plant propagation and greenhouse care.

 

Care and maintenance of field equipment and vehicles.

 

Data collection, entry, analysis, and reporting.

 

Establishing and maintaining relations with community partners.

 

Grant writing and oversight.

 

Public presentations and outreach.

 

Creating and updating web content.

 

Development of curriculum, support, and outreach materials.

 

Requirements:

    B.S. in Ecology, Natural Resources or related fields, and a minimum of five years of part-time experience in ecological field research and restoration. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, ArcMAP, and ArcCollector. Excellent physical condition and able to work safely outdoors in remote and/or physically challenging conditions, including late nights and/or weekends when necessary. Demonstrated proficiency in plant and animal species identification in NJ. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication, interpersonal relations, and data management and analysis. A valid NJ Driver's License and means of personal transportation. Experience with rare plant propagation, monitoring and research. Familiarity and experience with ongoing RVCC-CES research projects and programs preferred.

 

Additional Information:

*This is a one year grant funded position and continued employment is contingent on funding.
