The University of Illinois at Chicago in the College of Business Administration is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor(s). The College Academic Advisor serves as the primary point of contact for UIC Business students seeking academic and student services. Academic Advisors assist students in developing an academic plan to achieve their goals including providing information on majors, minor, and certificates; course selection; and other academic options such as study abroad. The Academic Advisor also assists students in identifying and connecting with other support services including tutoring and academic support, counseling, and co-curricular activities.

 

Duties:

Provide academic advising support to business students at all levels including assistance with course selection, identification of individual barriers to student success, and working with students to develop effective strategies and plans to achieve their academic and professional goals.

Implement projects designed to achieve student service goals such as a new student orientation, coordination of tutoring services, assisting with student recruitment, scholarship selection, and outreach to faculty.

Collaborate with other academic advisors, career advisors, faculty, and leadership to identify potential barriers to student achievement and participate in the development of strategies to address these barriers.

Serve on unit, college, and campus committees, as necessary.

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required; in Business preferred. Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field preferred.

A minimum of one year of professional work experience required; in university student services preferred.

Strong business acumen, along with presentation, interpersonal, management, communication and analytical skills.

Knowledge of business curricula and student development theory preferred.

Project management skills, including the ability to prioritize effectively.

Ability to handle a high volume of work, execute multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities and meet deadlines.

Ability and willingness to travel; some evening and weekend hours required.
