Research Technician II



Summary

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Research Technician to assist in the Aortic Research Lab. The lab is an AHA and NIH funded laboratory studying the molecular mechanisms of aortic aneurysms and dissections, using genetic mouse models and cutting-edge technologies. The selected candidate will be an enthusiastic, well-organized and detail-oriented individual. Duties include maintaining mouse colonies and performing small surgeries.

Job Duties
  • Maintenance of mouse colonies and genotyping for experiments.
  • Animal breeding.
  • Genotyping to generate tissue specific gene knockout mice.
  • Animal surgery and vascular imaging.
  • Human and animal tissue analysis (e.g. histology analysis, immunostaining, Western blotting and RT- PCR).
  • Advanced technology such as single cell RNA sequencing will be used.
  • Data analysis.
  • Presenting findings at national and international meetings.
  • Preparing manuscripts for publication.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous animal handling expereince.
  • Genotyping experience preferred.
  • Motivated individual with strong work ethic, good organizational, and communication skills.
