Job Description



PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Specialist II, Assistive Technologies Lab provide s students with disabilities tools and access in accordance with awarded accommodations, giving them reason able access to curricular needs

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • P rovide fulfillment of accommodations awarded students with certified disabilities, by providing equipment and devices on loan, providing training with devices and software in accordance with reasonable accommodations, and by providing the expertise to locate and/or create alternative formats to provide students with reason able access to curricular needs
  • Exercise professional interpersonal skills to help students with frustrations involved with using provided accommodatio ns in the classroom environment
  • Maintain documentation regarding students and what assistance is provided
  • Maintain inventory and keep trac k of devices loaned to students
  • Attend regular meetings to learn new processes and procedures and to facilitate communication and teaching/learning among peers performing same/similar duties regarding Assistive Technology and alternate formatting for students with disabilities
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned


  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Must be well organized and flexible to meet time, priority and workload demands
    • Must be able to work effectively wit h a diverse student population
    • Ability to work within established procedures with a moderate degree of supervision

    • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and maintain a positive attitude


    PHYSICAL ABILITIES :

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS :

    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
    • Interface with i nternal and external contacts as needed to carry ou t the functions of the position
    • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with min imal exposure to safety hazards


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school diploma or GED and at least 1 y ear of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience


    Salary

    Hiring salary range is $30,000 - $34,500

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
