  • The Executive Director of the Center for Professional Studies creates non-degree courses, programs, certifications, conferences and other opportunities for individuals and organizations. The executive director organizes, plans, and directs a complex non-degree enterprise in professional studies and business development and develops policies and practices that will impact University-wide programs.

    The position works with third-party partners in the development of workforce development opportunities and other instructional programs. The position requires someone who can manage ongoing and concurrent projects, forge strong relationships with internal and external partners, and problem solve.

    Education: Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree in a field related is preferred.

    Experience: At least five years of significant management and/ or administration experience in non-degree professional and continuing studies course and program development, online learning, curriculum design, custom training and adult education at an institution of higher education. Experience working with state and federal agencies in workforce development is preferred.

    Essential Functions:

  • Oversees a broad range of fiscal and program responsibilities for non-degree continuing and related external programs in Professional Studies
  • Generates new revenue channels through partnerships with external partners (including conferences, contracting of on-site and remote programs).
  • Provides leadership for the development and implementation of new programs of study and ensures the coordination and implementation of program components including eCommerce solutions, blended learning, online, self-study, and on demand learning platforms
  • Plans, markets and implements University's programs in professional studies, developing overall programs and overseeing development of content, budgets, and marketing strategies
  • Develops funding proposals, solicits grant information, and provides leadership and guidance in partnering with businesses, community, professional associations, and state and governmental agencies in workforce development
  • Develop, build and maintain business relationships within the community including relationships with economic development entities, workforce development entities and educational partners.
  • Works with business and industry to assess needs and develop customized training to create a sustainable learn-work ecosystem
  • Oversees curriculum design, development and implementation of non-degree courses, and programs in collaboration with the University's instructional design and assessment units. This includes stackable certificates, gamification, micro-credentials, professional certificates and issuing CEUs/ PDUs (Continuing Education Units -CEUs and Professional Development Units- PDUs)
  • In coordination with academic deans and provost develop a strategy to bridge non-credit content to credit courses.
  • Hires and oversees the management of outside content providers, subject matter experts, instructors and instructional designers.
  • Negotiates vendor contracts
  • Collaborates with the academic deans and schools within the University's credit bearing programs to identify new continuing education courses and programs through the conversion of credit learning modules into non-degree stackable courses and certificates
  • Provides fiscal oversight and evaluation, develops strategic and operating plans, and reports progress and results to management
  • Oversees a comprehensive marketing and public information program
  • Manages staff of the Professional Studies and Business Development office
  • Represents Professional Studies within the University community and externally
  • Performs related duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree in a related field and higher education and/or business experience preferred.
  • Experience with developing and implementing successful credit, non-credit, and certificate programs in areas such as workforce/career development, professional development, adult education, remediation, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and community-based activities.
  • Experience in creating partnerships with College academic departments and other areas across campus, and strengthening community outreach and collaboration
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of integrated software systems and Microsoft applications
  • Superb oral and written communication skills with an entrepreneurial spirit
