JOB DESCRIPTION

The University of Indianapolis is currently seeking an Assistant Director of Residence Life. The Assistant Director of Residence Life is a professional member of the Office of Residence Life and is responsible for supervision of staff, facilities, and residents of any assigned living areas. The Assistant Director will coordinate the day-to-day and collateral responsibilities and serve in a leadership role within the Office of Residence Life. The Assistant Director of Residence Life should be detailed oriented, a highly collaborative leader and committed to increasing student engagement, supporting the decisions of the administration and carrying out the mission of the Division of Student Affairs. This is a 12-month, exempt staff, full time, live-on position.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversight of the leasing, marketing, staffing of assigned living area(s)
  • Collaboration for the day-to-day operations of assigned living area(s)
  • Coordinate, manage the leasing process including prospect management, application processing, housing agreement fulfillment, addendums, mutual termination, room assignments and general lease paperwork
  • Work closely with Housing Assignments Coordinator for the housing sign up process and apartment leasing
  • Ensure weekly reporting is up to date and ready for review and distribution
  • Report daily traffic and leasing figures as well as any other leasing benchmarks as requested
  • Collaborate on the management of the student conduct process
  • Oversee departmental committees, operations, and initiatives as assigned
  • Manage the development and implementation of assigned strategic initiatives
  • Serve as an after-hours resource to the Residence Director Staff and intervene in crisis situations
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate assigned student and professional staff
  • Maintain weekly meetings with assigned student and professional staff
  • Establish a student culture where diversity is encouraged and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership
  • Maintain a high level of visibility, provide exceptional customer service, and interact with students on a regular basis
  • Support and assist with departmental programmatic initiatives, which may often require collaboration with other offices
  • Work closely with the Senior Associate Dean of Students to create and maintain student centered programs and services
  • Respond to housing related campus emergencies as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution required
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Prior housing, residence hall, and leadership experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the needs of people from diverse backgrounds and interests required
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, with individuals and before groups required
