Job Summary

Auburn Athletics is seeking candidates for the position of Broadcast Engineer (Level I/II/ III ). Working with the War Eagle Productions team, this position provides technical advice and expertise for operational activities, as well as maintain a range of broadcast equipment in support of athletic events.

Essential Functions

The successful candidate is responsible for:
  • Service and maintenance of an active production facility.
  • Repair, calibration and installation of audio & video broadcast/IT equipment. This includes equipment within the production facilities such as control rooms and athletic venues (cameras, switchers, audio mixers, multi-viewers, intercom system, monitors, graphic equipment, server/playback, etc.) and related supporting infrastructure in War Eagle Production facilities (A/V routers, data routers, RF/fiber transmission, tally, signal processing gear, etc.). Depending on location, maintenance/repair of broadcast equipment (field cameras, mixers, microphones, lights, etc.) may be required.
  • Performing technical support for critical/on-air production systems. Ability to back-up or assist non-critical systems and IT/PC gear, including installation, problem correction, removal/replacement, or other tasks as necessary to ensure continuation of on-air transmission.
  • Intermediate knowledge of technology design, installation, and integration projects with complex, leading-edge technology in an increasingly broadcast IP and IT centric environment. This includes broadcast and server-based systems, data networking (e.g., routers, switches) and other comparable equipment.
  • Documenting quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures, reference materials, and project work. Ensure sufficient inventory of parts and technology supplies, working with War Eagle Production management to order and track inventory.
  • Leading and participating in equipment transport, set-up, operation, and breakdown.
  • Serving as gameday point of contact for outside production trucks.
  • Responsible for the gameday setup of the official instant replay system utilized during network broadcasts in select facilities.
  • Identifying and troubleshooting issues with equipment and recommend necessary repairs.
  • Working knowledge of broadcast technology companies such as Sony, Ross, Evertz, Yamaha, etc.
  • Willingness to train and mentor students and staff of standard operating procedures ( SOP ) and best practices.
  • Compliance with all applicable National College Athletic Association ( NCAA ) and Southeastern Conference ( SEC ) regulations in the performance of job duties.
Preferred qualifications for the candidate pool include but are not limited to:
  • 2- or 4-year technical degree, preferably electronics, computer engineering, communications, RTVF (Radio, Television, Film), broadcast journalism (or equivalent education/experience/training).
  • 2 or more years of experience in television, multimedia content, IT client service or broadcast maintenance capacity, with a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair broadcast and computer equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience with television or multimedia production workflows.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with basic server, networking topology and operating systems (e.g., Windows, MacOS, Unix, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer desktop hardware/applications and data networking.
  • Ability to work outside regular work hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must be willing to be on call for coverage of critical technical systems.
  • Willingness to learn broadcast and IT applications
