Responsible for the strategic vision, leadership, planning, and management of the purchasing function of the entire college

Looking for a valued and respected leader, embracing a strong partnership and team-spirited model to oversee Procurement for Emerson College.

General Overview:

Oversee the execution of daily work in the Procurement department. Be responsible for the development of value-added business processes, including enabling an efficient procure-to-pay process flow, optimizing cost savings on purchases, and facilitating the business contract process for all goods and services.

You will be expected to develop and implement short and long-term strategies to proactively maximize the use of college resources with a visionary and continuous improvement mindset, including, but not limited to, effective contracting, efficient sourcing and supplier management, and detailed spend analytics. You will be expected to continually look for ways to streamline and eliminate unnecessary or redundant business processes and to ensure the continued effective use of Workday and other administrative systems. You will work to enhance equity and inclusion goals in hiring and supplier diversity.

You are responsible for ensuring proper use of college resources and the adequacy of internal controls related to contracting and procurement through the highest level of service excellence to our community. You will serve as a valued and respected leader, embracing a strong partnership and team-spirited model, and participates in strategic planning, development, and execution.

Your manager: Associate Vice President for Financial Business Service

Your Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in business management or other related field
  • Eight plus years of progressively more responsible experience in procurement/supply chain management.
  • Experience leading, supervising,, developing, empowering, and transforming a Procurement to Pay Services department to bring the greatest value to the college
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills with a proven ability to lead/manage change, build consensus, influence, and be a trusted and collaborative partner, leading innovative strategies and diverse initiatives, and managing complex business issues.
  • Knowledge of superior customer service standards and practices, and the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external constituents.
  • Proven experience in implementing and gaining wide adoption of strategic spend management and electronic procurement systems by having a deep understanding of the interface between process, data evaluation, and technology.
  • Superior understanding of regulatory and legal requirements related to procurement, contract management, supplier management and payment processing oversight and methods.
  • Ability to establish and maintain corporate relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, and to skillfully negotiate and/or mediate contracts and service level agreements on behalf of and to the benefit of the College.
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
  • Proficiency in systems, e-procurement and system integrations.

Preferred requirements
  • MBA or other related advanced degree, certification in procurement management, and leadership and procurement management responsibility in higher education, preferably a private institution, is highly desirable.
  • Strong in process improvement and continuous improvement.
  • Experience using Workday.

Your Individual Work Activities
Sourcing Oversight: Influences and builds consensus by developing collaborative partnerships and cultivating strong relationships with campus customers. Partners with stakeholders to understand their needs, and to prioritize opportunities and to assist in the selection of strategic partners. Leads and manages competitive RFIs, RFPs, RFQs and when able, works with Higher Ed consortiums and other groups for additional leverage to reduce cycle time and produce greater ROI. Provides assistance to stakeholders with procurement options. Delivers the procurement value proposition to the College in a decentralized, collaborative, and relationship-driven environment with a focus on operational excellence, customer service, cost savings, cost avoidance and the total procure-to-pay lifecycle. Ability to effectively incorporate diversity program goals into strategic sourcing activities.

Contract and Vendor Management: Creates a vision and plan for success that embraces spend management and sourcing best practices, including the leadership of major strategic negotiations benefiting the College. Establishes comprehensive and valued contract administration practices in partnership with the College Legal Department and business units. Utilizes software (Workday) to manage the contract renewal process and develop a sourcing calendar. Able to train and support team in gaining a stronger understanding of contract terms and their relevance and importance to the College. Develop and oversee a supplier relationship and performance management program. Establishes and executes environmentally and socially responsible procurement policies.

Training and Customer Service: Leads, inspires, and develops a customer service oriented and high-performing team; is a passionate leader who can inspire team members to perform to their full potential and deliver maximum value to the College. Ensures internal service level agreements are maintained, tracked and enhanced as needed. Ability to coach, mentor and develop negotiation skills across team members. Manages, and conducts college wide training initiatives procurement processes, Workday, Procurement Card program, and the College Travel program.

Automation, Data Management and Reporting: Understands and leverages the use of data to support decision making, continual process and customer service improvement and staffing patterns and workload to support the College's goals and objectives. Develops and maintains dash boards and other KPIs to keep management informed of key metrics and progress towards goals. Partners with other fiance team members and external partners to enhance and/or implement workday capabilities, invoice automation, expansion of punch out catalogues, and vendor management and oversight activities.

Grade of Position: A20E

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

Hiring Range: $131,550.00 - $138,750.00
