General Summary

THIS JOB IS 100% REMOTE

The Director reports directly to the VP of IS.  The Director provides leadership to the staff within his/her team, manages maintenance and project activities specific to information security, and facilitates communication with team members and peers across the division.  The Director is responsible for ensuring that the day-to-day activities of the team are carried out effectively and efficiently.
 

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manages communication for the team, including communication with IS leadership, peer directors, project team members, and colleagues across the university.
  • Manages personnel issues for the team, including recruiting, developing, and terminating as necessary.
  • Development of personnel includes establishing and executing training plans for team members as well as ensuring staff have up-to-date technical certifications per industry standards and job specifications.
  •  Develop, implement and monitor a strategic, comprehensive enterprise information security and IT risk management program.
  • The Director has accountability for managing DRP (disaster recovery processes), network security monitoring, desktop security, and overall security infrastructure and architecture.
  • In accordance with industry practice, the Director will help develop and monitor security policy and procedures for the university in partnership with IS leadership, peer directors, office of general council, office of the president, compliance, and others as necessary.
  • The Director may be involved in sensitive security related matters for the university and will maintain confidentiality as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 3-5 years experience working in technology or related field

Preferred Requirements

  • Masters Degree preferred
Managerial Responsibilities
  • The Director can supervise 4-10 staff and several student workers.
Financial Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with the VP, the Director is responsible for effectively managing his/her budget for staff, student workers, technology, and other equipment purchases.  
Other Skills & Abilities Required
  • This position requires intermediate or advance skills in technology or related field as well as an understanding of personnel and financial management. This position also requires excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.

This position may require travel (less than 20%) and 365x7x24 availability
