Bard College Architecture is seeking a dedicated person to supervise the daily operations of the architecture studio/workshop. As the newest program on campus, the studio and workshop are still in formation and the contribution of the S/W Supervisor will be crucial in its establishment and expansion.

Initially this post will be a part-time position in the Architecture Program (15 to 20 hours per week), but we expect this to increase as the program grows and as our space and suite of equipment expands. The schedule is negotiable based on candidate’s availability. This position reports directly to the co-directors of the architecture program.

Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the candidate will be to maintain and supervise the studio and workshop equipment, which includes laser cutters, 3D printers, a CNC milling machine, foam cutters, as well as carpentry tools, casting equipment, and various others tools. In addition, the supervisor will facilitate the use of printing equipment and coordinate the stock of general studio materials throughout the academic year.

The candidate will work closely with students and faculty using the studio as a stage to provide periodic technical training to ensure the smooth
use of equipment and supplies as well as to offer basic technical guidance to students as they move from digital drafting to model making to printing and fabrication.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a recent architecture graduate that is proficient in architectural representation from digital drafting to image production to model making, and who enjoys the exploration of spatial ideas through various media. The candidate must be well organized.

We are also interested in candidates who would like to explore alternative materials and supplies that are sustainable or recyclable.

A strong skillset in CAD and Adobe Creative software is crucial.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and work in standard office environment
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 20 pounds
  • Must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings as needed

Compensation
The compensation will depend on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. In addition to the benefits stipulated by Bard College, the position will include a dedicated time for researching materials and training preparation. We are also welcoming candidates who may be interested in developing self-standing teaching workshops, which will be remunerated separately.
