The University of Georgia (UGA), a land-grant and sea-grant university with statewide commitments and responsibilities, is the state’s oldest, most comprehensive, and most diversified institution of higher education (https://www.uga.edu/). UGA is currently ranked among the top 15 public universities in U.S. News & World Report. The University’s main campus is located in Athens, approximately 65 miles northeast of Atlanta, with extended campuses in Atlanta, Griffin, Gwinnett, and Tifton. UGA was founded in 1785 by the Georgia General Assembly as the first state-chartered University in the country. UGA employs approximately 1,800 full-time instructional faculty and more than 7,700 full-time staff. The University’s enrollment exceeds 39,000 students including over 30,000 undergraduates and over 9,000 graduate and professional students. Academic programs reside in 18 schools and colleges, as well as a medical partnership with Augusta University housed on the UGA Health Sciences Campus in Athens.

The Strauch Research (strauchlab.com) lab at the University of Georgia's College of Pharmacy Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences (PBS) Department is seeking a highly motivated, Postdoctoral Research Associate. We are combining state-of-the art technologies in computational protein design with directed evolution methodologies and bring new perspective to difficult problems – and we are looking for a computational biologist or a structural biologist for our open postdoctoral position. Postdocs who are interested in designing antivirals and vaccine candidates against viruses are highly encouraged to apply.

We have an array of computational, structural design, and protein engineering tools available, enabling us to revisit old paradigms and tackle viruses from new angles while also developing new technologies (relevant to both industry and academia). We are a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. Postdoctoral trainees will have access to outstanding facilities, state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and will receive training in computational protein design. A direct feedback-loop with experimental data will accelerate our progress to tackle challenging problems.

We are looking for candidates with a Ph.D. in either structural biology, computational biology, biophysics, bioengineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or equivalent. Experience in common programming languages (e.g. python) is highly desired; knowledge in protein biochemistry or structural biology.

Duties/Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:

90% Develop and apply structural computational design methodologies to design antivirals or vaccine candidates using Rosetta and other macromolecular software suits.

10% Work with and train new graduate students or postdocs.
