The Strauch Research (strauchlab.com) lab at the University of Georgia's College of Pharmacy Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences (PBS) Department is seeking a highly motivated, Research Technician. We are combining state-of-the art technologies in computational protein design with directed evolution methodologies and bring new perspective to difficult problems.

This position will provide experimental support for research projects with the focus on recombinant protein expression using mammalian and bacterial cell cultures. Knowledge how to handle mammalian cell culture is essential for this position. Responsibilities of the position will also include maintaining lab safety regulations, service and maintain laboratory instruments, assisting with the purchase of lab supplies, and ensuring overall organization.

Research experience needed. Experience in working with mammalian cell culture and background knowledge on protein purification is highly desired, as well as the ability to work with little supervision, through initiative and good judgment. Experience working in BSL-2 research facilities. The position will be in a collaborative research environment.

Duties/Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following: 

40% Expression of recombinant proteins in mammalian, bacterial and possibly insect cell cultures.

20% Chromatographic protein purification (e.g., IMAC and SEC).

20% Protein Characterization and analytics (e.g. SDS-PAGE). Molecular Biology (e.g. PCR, vector generation).

20% Lab managerial (e.g. ordering supplies, ensuring safety, service and maintain laboratory instruments of the lab). Quality Assurance tasks – document review, SOP creation and revision, maintaining records, etc.

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate.
