Barnard College seeks an innovative and strategic leader as its Associate Vice President of Finance. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer & Vice President for Finance, the AVP serves as a senior finance and compliance leader of the College. The AVP is a member of the Finance & Risk Management leadership teams and is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating all accounting, financial reporting, payroll, procurement and risk assessment functions at the College.

 

The Associate Vice President of Finance provides leadership and oversight to general accounting, grants management, financial reporting including endowment reporting, payroll, accounts payable, procurement, risk management and financial compliance.

 

The AVP serves as a respected, senior advisor to the CFO and VP for Finance and other members of the College’s senior leadership team. Directly reporting to the CFO/VP of Finance, the AVP will also report to the Deputy General Counsel and Director of Government Relations & Compliance on matters of risk management and compliance.

 

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will have 7 to 10 years of experience working in a management capacity in Accounting/Finance and will demonstrate the ability to think and plan strategically as well as provide a collaborative management style that ensures good management practices throughout the College in support of service, accountability, equity, and communications. A bachelor’s degree is required. The successful candidate will also have earned a certified public accounting or certified management accounting certification or an advanced degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.

In addition, the Associate Vice President of Finance of Barnard College will possess many of the following abilities, attributes, and experiences:

  • Extensive experience with the compilation, review and audits of U.S. GAAP, OMB and other financial statements, best practices for procurement and payroll operations;
  • Excellent computer skills, including the development of complex spreadsheets and relational databases;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of faculty and staff;
  • Ability to set priorities and to manage multiple projects and deadlines;
  • A commitment to a customer service, data-driven approach to decision-making and problem-solving;
  • A willingness to function collaboratively as part of the Finance Division on activities and projects which further the Division’s goals;
  • Knowledge of best practices and criteria for effective compliance;
